Their are fae in those woods.( tutorial done.)
« on: January 20, 2012, 11:41:58 PM »
At last I have managed to find the time to start the forest. The tree experiments are over and work has begun at last.
The tutorial will be a while off as I want to finish the full forest before posting the tutorial on line.

The next picture shows the actual height of the trees compared to the models.

Fabulous! They may well be the most realistic trees for gaming amongst that I've ever seen. I await the tutorial with interest. Bravo, generulpoleaxe, bravo!

Wonderful work  :-* :-*

Am I right in thinking that the method is used by railway modellers? If so, you have a lot of patience and well done for getting them to look real  :)

Thanks guys :)

@Black wolf 1066, unfortunately the trees aren't in scale. If they were they would be almost twice as tall!  (HO isn't as big as 1/56, 1/56 is closer to O scale which means a fully matured oak would be almost two foot tall!   roughly 5 mm to a foot for 1/56.)

Edit, after a few measurements and fact checking these are about two thirds the size of what they should be so a good compromise I reckon for gaming purposes.

Yeah man, I did a lot of research on model rail way forums and then said "$^^&*$%^ to the wire armature (my armature is quicker to make as it combines the caspia tree method and the wire armature.)

The last of the first batch of trees is now planted, I now have start making the second batch and hopefully the olive paint will have arrived before I finish (it takes more paint than I thought it would to colour the foliage.)

As you can see, it takes more trees to make a forest than you would imagine (okay a pine forest then as oaks etc have HUGE [as wide as they are tall] spans and as such take up far more space.)
