Isle of Man Campaign (Updated Feb,1,2012)
« on: January 21, 2012, 10:31:30 PM »
I am trying to put together a Isle of Man Campaign any ideas on faction? I was thinking of having Scottish, Irish and Royalist/BUF forces invading but I can't decide if the island should be united in it's defense or split. Any ideas are welcomed.

Just ordered my new miniatures for the campaign forces. I will be able to field 20 men per faction, the factions are the Manx Nationalist Militia, Royalist/BUF and the Manx Socialist Council. I will be adding vehicles later aswell as BUF Auxiliary for my Royalist. I ordered packs from Artizan, Musketeer and Bolt Action along with Warm Acre's Rachael Knight mini.

As it's the Isle of Man you're doing, I suggest a few motorcycles would be the thing for a bit of local flavour!

the factions are the Manx Nationalist Militia, Royalist/BUF and the Manx Socialist Council.

So it's split three ways - each having possession of one leg of the triskelion?

Impressive ... You do realise there can be no "Fog of War" for manx forces as the power of Manx "skeet" (gossip) will allow them to locate the enemy ... and give you thier life history!

Manannan's cloak should put pay to any invading forces seaward, (ask the Romans!).

You've also managed to miss out the longest continuous parliament in history the Tywald. I'm sure they would have some say in the Island defence/either in support of the realm or apposed ;) Tywald (House of Keys) could lead the nationalist militia. The Lord of Man (the King: god save the KING!) would be supported by the Lieutenant Governor, (royalist forces). The sword of state would be a powerful icon to be held or captured.

Also historically, as the southern islands of the old Norse kingdoms (Sodor) maybe some support from old allies too?

Just a few ideas, have family on the island so know a little of the history.

The Manx Nationalist are supported by the House of Keys, and they have received a shipment of rifles from a Norwegian ship captain (This being my force). The Lieutenant Governor leads the Royalist forces from Castletown and they also control the parish of German Patrick were a internment camp is located. The Socialist control port St. Mary and Port Erin. The Manx Nationalist control all of Middle and the district of Lonan. There is room for the Irish and Scottish invasion forces. We are also doing play by proxy for players that want to partake but are geographically unable.

I hadn't designed it that way, but yes.  :)

Good I was bang on the money then! ;)

Re: internment camps for WWI a very large camp (effectively a small, self-contained, township) was established at Knockaloe, Patrick, on the west coast near Peel. This camp was for male internees - women were not interned. There was another smaller camp at Douglas.

Again good luck.

@Vyper thanks for pointing out my error in the location of the internment camp our group has corrected it in the campaign.

And one near Ramsey, and Port Erin/Port St. Mary. Conditions were pretty good for the internees (which caused a little resentment with the locals), and they did a lot of work on the Isand in farms and such. Pilates was developed by an internee here too :)
