Model Building Advice
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:19:57 PM »
I need some modelling advice. I've seen some of the great work here on the forum and would like to pick your collective brains. I purchased a 1/48 scale biplane for back of beyond and it arrived today. It's a nice kit, but it needs to be able to stand gaming. How much of the detail is appropriate for a model used for wargaming? Are there things that are best omitted? Is there any advice on strengthening a model for gaming purposes? This is the first straight-from-the-box build for me, so any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Cadet13

How much of the detail is appropriate for a model used for wargaming?

The finer the detail, the more fragile the model.

Saw your post in the other board and did a little search for that model.
found these reviews :

I wouldn't omit a single piece of that kit.
You could try to substitue the wiring with metal for added strength, but no matter how you try to reinforce the model, that machinegun will always be a weak point.
Just make sure you use modellers glue as it welds the pieces together rather than gluing them together like CA does.
Also, if you glue the propellor horizontaly you'll lessen the chance of breaking it when someone (mis)handles the model.

He could always cheat and mount the machinegun directly on the wing. A little less accurate, but it'll still look close and be a lot more resilient.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.
