I thought that I'd start a thread for some of the science-fictiony models I paint that aren't connected with Doctor Who.

To kick off, here is a pair of Crooked Dice astronauts.

They aren't painted to resemble anything in particular, but I was inspired by photos from this marvellous blog about spacesuits in fiction (mostly), which I stumbled across while looking for ideas:

Back from the dead, almost.

Next, a double vintage item: a 1977 mini (Archive Miniatures - though this is a more recent reissue) of a 1939 design - prolific pulp artist Frank R Paul's "Man from Mars".

Here's Paul's original picture.

And here's the explanation of the design.

All highly plausible, I'm sure.  As a member of the most advanced species on this planet, I make it my habit to carry a neuton bomb with me at all times.

The spacesuits look fantastic. It's nice to see someone paint these up in some way other then orange. And that's coming from someone who's painted a bunch of orange spacesuits for his Space:1999 game. I have to admit the Man From Mars is creeping me out. I'm sure that was the point, so it's working.

Thanks, guys.  I love the fact that Frank R Paul's Martian is so very silly looking, but also that little bit creepy.

Paul himself was so pleased with this design that he kept reusing it well into the 1950s.  Thsi 1940 illustration has a nicely witty idea behind it.

Note the Martian on the left, who is holding an iPad ...

I've got a couple more of that Archive reissue, so I'll do some variants at some point.

Portly, wearing casual clothing, and eating... looks like they captured the look of an American Earthman living in the Midwest :)

And watching Google Earth 8)

Nice work on all models. The sculpt of the man from Mars is a bit rough but then it is from 1977.

Really cool Steve F.
I thought I commented on this after you first posted, but apparently I didn't.
I love your creativity and sense of humor.  :-*

Thanks, folks.

I finally got round to painting up a couple of carnivorous plant creatures from Wargames Supply Dump.

They are roughly man-sized: those are 25mm round bases.  I wanted the colours to contrast strongly with my QRF/Friekorps trifoliates, which I painted to match the 1981 BBC TV version of The Day of the Triffids.

Sadly, WSD seems to have vanished, while, IIRC, QRF got a "cease and desist" letter from John Wyndham's estate.  So I'll have to look elsewhere to expand this meagre nursery of doom.
