Advice needed on mesh
« on: January 19, 2014, 11:36:50 PM »
I'm converting a truck carrying a skip - Tesco large industrial vehicle - into a post zombie apocalyptic war wagon! I've fitted a plough at the front and have boxed in the skip to form a fortress on wheels. I've put plastic card over the cab windows with slits cut out for the driver to see out of but now want to put a wire mesh over the slits to keep those pesky zombie hands out. The scale is around 1/43 - so suitable for 28mm figures. I wondered if any one could suggest the correct size of wire mesh and a stockist in the UK? Cheers in advance.

If you head down to your local Pound shop you can pick up a couple of metal Splatter Guards for frying pans which have a good sized mesh on them and are easily cut with snips or even large scissors.  They'll give you a fair quantity of material to work with and only cost a quid  ;)

I'd second that. I used the same stuff for some Necromunda terrain recently. It's paints up really well.

I use aluminium car body repair mesh a fair bit but I suspect for this you want a square grid rather than diamond and the square is harder to find. I also find the aluminium mesh a swine to glue.

The only good square mesh I know of is etched brass and thus quite expensive but comes in a variety of sizes.

I have a pile of Hongwell/Cararama Unimogs to convert for SF and/or post apocalyptic gaming and mesh window guards is on the list for them though I was considering getting it done in custom etched brass to fit the windows. In theory at least I can do this myself.
