Help with Russian tank slogans?
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:13:51 AM »
I am hoping someone might be able to translate at least some of these slogans.

This is scanned from an 1/76 transfer sheet with the lettering in white, and the background in very light blue. Ruddy hard to read them in real life, so I did some photoshopping. There are even smaller slogans on the sheet but they seem to be just repeats of these. Any help appreciated.

I haven't actually seen any pics of Soviet tanks in the Winter War with such slogans, but I thought some might look cool. Most tanks don't seem to have any markings at all (so all my lovely stars are wasted... :`) I have seen some pics with slogans on airplanes though, so maybe not a huge leap to use some on tanks? But first it would nice to know what they actually say, and is it appropriate for this war?

Can't see the pic as it's on Imageshack, please attach it to your post and I will check the slogans.

The texts are:

 Death to the German fascists!

(In the battle -) For the red Ukraine

 Forward to the West!

For the front to the defeat of fascism

 Forward to Riga!

Protecting achievements of the October! (referring to the Bolshevik Revolution)

Chelyabinsk farmers (tanks of own money paid by farmers Chelyabinsk region)

For the Soviet-Finnish war, they will not fit.

Fits this inscription:

 For Stalin!

Thanks, cuprum. Yeah, most of them seem a 'bit' odd for the Finnish campaign... unless the troops got lost on the way to Riga, Lol. Better forget these for now. Embarrasment avoided! (at least for this reason) :)

EDIT: thanks again cuprum. I might actually print some of my own in red, so they show nicely against white camo background?

Cuprum beat me to it. How he said, it's not really appropriate for the Winter War.

Though you could use the last two, these are very common and would fit in every Sovjet war:

9. Суворов - Suvorov (the famous russian general, end of XVIII cent.)
10. Щорс - Tschors (name of one of the fallen red heroes of RCW)

Perhaps agree. Especially "Tschers".

Strange - the last three inscriptions I have not seen.

 Semicircular inscription: Khabarovsk Young Communist

Red words on a white background - looks good.

8. Хабаровкий комсомолец -  Komsomolez of Khabarovsk (Khabarovsk - siberian city, Komsomolez - member of Soviet youth organization)

That wouldn't work, the tank convoy "Хабаровкий комсомолец" has been formed 1941.
