Knightly Orders?

So I'm attempting to get back into painting the things that got me started in this hobby in the first place, namely knights on horseback. I'd like to do examples of various knightly orders with the obvious ones being Templars, Hospitallers, and Teutonic. Are there any other knightly orders that have bold heraldry that I should research?

There are quite a lot of them. Look at 'Military Orders' on Wiki and there only you'll see quite a sizable list.

Another question. Can anyone identify the maker of these knights? I was given this jousting set years ago and can't seem to find it online to find the manufacturers of the miniatures.

I only ask as this might determine which order(s) you concentrate on.

The Iberian orders were pretty focused on that part of the world. After some dabling elsewhere, the Teutonics quickly looked north and the Order of St. Lazarus barely figure as a fighting order. There are also some minor orders in the Baltics - like the Sword Brothers, but the big two (Templars and Hospitallers were predominant in the Levant as well very active in Iberia.

At first I'd like to just have a collection of them for display. That way I can work on them when I have time.

But the new plastic Teutonics are also making me want to game with them. Any suggestions for rules for this era?

There are a couple of things due out this year: some lists to support an existing set of rules and a while new set of rules aimed at the Crusades. Both seem to be looking to go to print in the late Summer, but I can't say anymore than that as there hasn't been an official anouncement by either company.

If you aim for WAB size bases (including the odd multi base if you want) then you should be good for either option
