GW Imperial Guard and weapon swapping
« on: February 11, 2012, 12:06:14 PM »
Hi,
I have a bunch of IG and would like to use them for Tomorrow's War (obviously after filing off the eagles on the body armour ;-) ). For headswaps I would go for Pig Iron but what I least like are the weapons. Would like to swap with Hasslefree e.g. railguns, or something else. But has anybody experience with these swaps and are the weapons figure compatible or is there a lot of cutting, filing and filling involved. I'm not deterred by the work but most importantly IMHO is the compatibility and position of trigger- and gun supporting hands. If that's ok the rest can be handled.
Any advice?
Henk

The Hasslefree guns might look a bit small in the hands of GW guardsmen.

I've used then and yes used straight they look a little small, but that's easily sorted by adding a small piece of plastic rod to extend the barrel. Unfortunately I've no pictures to show.

Are you set on using the Hasslefree railguns or are you simply wanting something other than the lasrifles? If you're just wanting something different, you might consider Tau pulse rifles.

The butt and trigger are roughly in the same area as the IG lasrifle and should match up without much (if any) fuss.

Heresy miniatures (Andy's) sci-fi weapons work well too:

Alternatively, try: http://www.maxmini.eu/store/. They have a lot of conversion bits specifically for the 40K range, including some weapon designs that are a straight swap for the 40K ones...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I'll try to find my maxmini packs and bring them along to our next session. that way you get a good idea on size.

I feel like "a little small" is actually a good thing, as IG weapons always look awkwardly gigantic to me to begin with. A size reduction would actually make things look more sane and believable.

That said, if gigantic is what you want, go for the CAD gun range in Hasslefree's catalog rather than their regular guns. The CAD gun masters were purchased by HF from another company rather than being made in house like the pulse rifles and rail guns and such, and are in a larger, more GW sized scale.

I always find the biggest issue with weapon swapping is the shortage of left hands as you only get 1 empty hand per 5 miniatures.

This may help (the bolter is GW, the rest are Hasslefree):

what you mean you can't cut the gun barrel free of the supporting hand??? It's soft plastic, a good xacto will do the job in no time.
