Hi,

the Rules we tested on Saturday are also suitable for IM. We just have to make some  character changes. But I want to make this anyway for all sorts of Colonial Conflicts.

If you want to buy something I would recommend The Sword And The Flame by Larry Brom.

That would be my recommendation as well, Professor! We usually play all our colonial games with this set of splendid rules.

I would recommend Too Fat Lardies "Sharpe Practice" and their Indian Mutiny Special Supplement from their 2008 Christmas Cracker issue. ;-D

I second the Sharp Practice suggestion if you like a lot of derring-do in your games. The Sword and the Flame always seemed a bit...bland IMO.

For proper-sized battles (which is what the Mutiny is really all about) my favourite Victorian set is "Fields of Honor" which unfortunately is not available for sale any more. I also have a set called "Sepoy" which I have never actually played (I just pinched the scenarios from the back) but it looked like fun.

I use the space 1889 Soldiers Companion rules without all of the sci-fi stuff.  It makes for a really great set of colonial rules.  Tons of information as well, armies, artillery, and painting guides.  It is out of print but I seem to recall a website where they were selling copies so someone might have bought the rights.  I also see them on ebay quite often.

Plynkes is right, Indian Mutiny is gaming done on a larger scale.

I'm not saying you can't do skirmish games, I'm sure there is great scope for such things. Just that the essence of the thing is in the big pitched battles.

Oh, by the way, regarding Soldier's Companion...

A seige of Lucknow game would be a thing of beauty with scenarios involving attempts to creep out and spike the mutineers seige cannons ;D

Sword and the Flame or John Company by TVAG. Sepoy looks like it would play a fun game too.

A big battle set of note is "The Gatlings Jammed" from Partizan Press. (http://www.caliverbooks.com/Partizan%20Press/partizan_TGJ.shtml
I haven't played it me self, but I have played other General de Brigade (which it's derived from) and it's ACW sister "Guns at Gettysburg". I think Gatling's Jammed is probably the best set of the three. It has army lists for the Mutiny as well as other early Victorian colonial adventures. Good handling of irregulars and technological differences.
Also worth a look is Chris Peers' Ever Victorious Armies.

Another shout for S&F with its Supplement, Flames in India. If you wanted larger games then S&F (large actions) 800 Englishmen
