Coach and Four/From Broken Toy
« on: February 18, 2012, 11:37:23 PM »
I bought this broken toy coach at the swap meet a couple years ago for 50 cents.  It looked like it had some potential for my planned 18th century pirate collection of 28mm figures.  The carriage was missing it tongue and needed some minor modifications including the building of a more appropriate driver’s seat and the removal of a crown from the top and little hearts from the doors.  But I thought the wheels looked good and the overall shape was fine.  For some while I keep my eyes open for a usable tongue but with no luck until a week ago when I found a different, very badly broken toy coach that had a tongue that would work.  I spent a dollar for that coach to get the tongue.  The driver is a modified Eureka Victorian carriage driver who had very short legs.  I cut his legs off and replaced them with those of a seated gangster from Dixon.  A few years ago I purchased seven packs of the Dixon seated gangsters for about $2 a four-figure pack and because I didn’t all seven of the tommy gunners, I used the legs of one for my coach driver.  I also cut the small top hat had off the Eureka and replaced it with a tricorne from an unused Old Glory 25s’ pirate.  The horses are from the Blue Moon Wagons Ho collection, and while I love the wagons, I believe the horses that come with those wagons are far too small for the wagons so I got replacement horses for them and used the Blue Moon horses for this coach.  The two painted figures standing beside the unpainted coach are there for size reference.  One is by Blue Moon and the other by Foundry.  I’m pretty happy with the way the coach came out.  Hope you enjoy.

Thank you both.  I think the driver worked out really well too.
