Green Stuff was yesterday - now its salt dough
« on: February 25, 2012, 03:32:48 PM »
For my new project a mammoth carcass is urgently needed.  So what about modeling one with.. ah.. hmm.. what to use?
I got absolutely no experience with modeling techniques. But wait, when my daughter was young years ago we used to make animals from play dough, so this could be a way. Hm, should be to soft. And can it be painted? Use some of the professional materials like Green stuff ? To expensive for my humble experiments.

So what have we got in the kitchen to use instead?

We mix
1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, 1 cup used coffee ground and 1/2 cup of cold coffee, kneading it with some more flour and voila , we have a semiprofessional modeling material. Well, not really, but anyway, here is the result.

The first picture shows the raw model, not dry and unpainted. The second picture shows the completed one. Well, not perfect at all, but it could have been worse  lol

Not bad at all.  It could also be used as an armature to build on.  I like it.  My only suggestion is to store it in an airtight container.  We made Christmas ornaments this way one year.  The box they were stored in was cracked open.   Even though we varnished them, bugs got in there and ate holes throughout the ornaments.
