Some of the folks from Basin City
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:43:27 PM »
I've had this Sin City project for a long, long time. I just finished the Hasslefree "Bob" as That Yellow Bastard a week ago and figured it was time to put some of this stuff on the forum. All I could find this morning was That Yellow Bastard, Marv and the only building I had painted to fit the theme. I will be listing my other figures when I find them.

First off we have Marv, from a Hasslefree Harby.

Next we have That Yellow Bastard, from the story of the same name. He's from a Bob figure from Hasslefree, sculpted by Michael Brand. At least that's how he was listed by Noble Knight where I got him from.

And finally we have the building I ripped the wiring out of and repainted in blacks, whites and greys. My wife is still giving me grief for buying a $60 model railroad building, just to take it apart and rip the lighting out of it.

Whoa!  Very striking, very appropriate and very effective.

(But if you do The Spirit like that, I'm going to have to kill you, OK?  lol )

You, sir, officially started what has been a dream project of mine for years. I had planned the exact same thing, with all characters in the stark black and white contrast the graphic novels were known for (except for the yellow bastards etc., of course).

I have to say that you perfectly captured the look of Marv and the Yellow Bastard!

The building I'd probably have done different, with white for the mortar between the bricks and the bricks painted black, and the glass of the windows white as well.

Next I'd like to see one of the vintage cars done in the same style, please  8)

One cool thing to do would be to recreate the first scene from The Hard Goodbye where MNarv has to fight the riot cops and flee from the hotel. Foundry SWAT miniatures for the cops, World Works Games Apartment TLX terrain converted to pure b&w in photoshop for the scenery. .45 Adventure or Savage Worlds Showdown as skirmish rule system. It would be one of the coolest looking projects to hit the table.

Stunning! The models are brilliant (that yellow bastard, in particular, is superb!), and the building looks perfect too, but for me the most outstanding detail is the bases - brilliant! You've really captured the look - and feel - of the comics.

Thank you everyone.

lol I own that movie, and it makes me feel dirty. I love Frank Miller's art. I just wish he'd stick to that and stop screwing up the work on others. Leave Will Eisner and Batman alone. (Dark Knight 2 was one of the worst books I ever read. I still haven't forgiven him for that.)

Really cool!
I thought of this before, but figured the end result would look like crap.  lol
Your very clean painting and intricate basing shadows really makes these miniatures look sweet.
Great job!  :-*

That and the school bus....  :D

Seriously, my friend, beautiful work. I especially love the bases.
