Perry WotR and the Conquest of North America
« on: October 19, 2013, 10:27:01 AM »
Some of you may recall I enquired about 28mm figures suitable for the late Spanish Reconquista a couple of months ago (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=57689.0) - I typed up some thoughts about what I could do as a blog entry at the time but didn't publish it. Anyway, here is the entry in full - including a somewhat random brain-fart I had regarding John Cabot in North America as a basis for skirmish wargames: http://tenfiguresaweek.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/28mm-perry-wotr-figures-possibilities.html

I'm actually going to go with the Reconquest of Granada and have begun painting (hesitantly) the first few figures but I thought the idea of Early English arrival in North America had some merit for skirmish games....

It sounds like fun and perhaps not as far-fetched as at first glance. How many ships were actually 'lost at sea' and how many perhaps did make landfall, only to make short and brutal attempts to survive for a period of time? We'll never know... maybe tomorrow someone will stumble on late 15th Century European artefacts and a settlement previously unknown.

Another option might be Portuguese adventures along the African coast...

:)

Sounds like a great idea.

(By the way, unfortunately there is something evil embedded in your blog - when you try to close it, it brings up an 'earn some cash' pop-up  :()

As an idea I think it has possibilities - you could use FIW terrain with 15th Century figures and bow armed natives. It would certainly have changed the dynamic of early colonisation - the Europeans would still have had the germs on their side but their other advantages might not have been so great.

Captain Blood, thanks for the heads up - I've removed anything that is a bit extraneous from the Blog. I'm a bit of a klutz technically so how to sweep it to find the offending line of code is beyond me....Unfortunately, I've never earned any cash from the blog at all!

Very interesting idea, this.
It's nothing, sir. Just a burn from a ray gun.

While browsing elsewhere I found this rather useful little site: http://modelshipbuilder.com/page.php?64

It has plans for the Matthew in 3/16" to the foot and 1/4" to the foot (1/32 and 1/48) respectively. It's designed for a full hull model but I'm sure could be adapted for a waterline version. 1/48 isn't too far off 1/56...hmm.
