Looking for inspiration for an ancient Egyptian "Mordheim"
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:46:50 AM »
Has anyone on this board seen this thread on the Fantasy board?

(The Ruins of Krappefort - Mordheim)

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=30667.0

I think it's inspirational.  HUGELY so.  However, I don't have much interest in that time period or type of setting... I'd love to do something similar, but in an ancient vein.  I'd like whatever I build to be generic enough that I can use it with Conan (and really, Conan moved around so much, you could use nearly any setting you can think of and plug him into it...), Wargods of Aegyptus, and my own skirmish gaming - lost cities being explored by RPG groups or Tarzan - but specific & accurate enough that I can use it with ancients skirmish games, too.

Any suggestions for pictures or artwork that I could use as inspiration for such terrain?  An ancient city, alive and vibrant, ideally with an Egyptian flavor.

Thanks!

Stills from "The Mummy"? The flashbacks were rather lovely. Maybe not the most historically accurate, but enough to get a game board together...

There was a terrrible movie that came out a few years ago, "10,000 BC".  It makes for decent background noise while painting, but I'm particularly a fan of the end sequences that take place on an unfinished Pyramid:

I think that a full game table, consisting of nothing but a partially completed Pyramid under construction, with scaffolding, worker barracks, tomb rooms in the process of being painted...  it'd be a good table!

I always found the tower of Babel very inspirational.

How about that 80's movie Allan Quatermain and the lost city of gold (richard chamberlain, sharon stone and james earl jones in an indiana jones ripoff, really). I don't really remember much about it, but the city may give some inspiration.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I do love me some cheezy 80's movies.  I'll check it out, thanks!

Those were tombs along the Appian Way weren't they?
