Using Cannons in LotHS
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:40:35 AM »
Im am starting to play Legends of the High Seas but have a couple of questions.

The way Im reading it you need 2 creww at each cannon to fire every turn. If there is only 1 crewman at the cannon it only fires every other turn. Is that right?

What about ships with cannons on lower decks where you cant place models?
Like a lower gun port on the side of an Ainsty Castings ship.
How do you work it then?

Thanks in advance

Correct.

They are assumed below deck manning them.

Just ensure you have 2 crew per cannon for each cannon you want to shoot, they won't be on deck. I figure in the event you are boarded they would leave the cannons and run to the top deck.

Perhaps like in land games where the roof doesn't come off the buildings?  One way would be a "floor plan" off table where you place the miniatures "below decks" while manning the guns?  The other way it is done locally when occupying buildings (placing them outside building, with the back of their base touching the building) probably wouldn't be visually appealing to some.

Glenn

The floor plan idea could work well.
Would you use a move to get them on top deck?

Not at all familiar with LotHS due to my severe GW allergy.   lol

Depending on relative time scale I would say roll a D6:

1 - arrives this turn during movement after all others moved

2-5 - arrives before movement by others next turn

6 - falls/trips on stairs all figures roll a D10 (alternatively lose movement this turn):

1 - jumps over figures/falls forward near top of stairs, rolls, stand up at end of movement phase

2-4 - try again next turn,  following figures not affected

5-8 - blocks passage/stairs for all following figures this turn, all try again next turn

9 - wounded (if no wounds in game, treat as 5-8)

10 - fatal accident figure dies.

So....  How do you roll the 10 on your D6?

I like you plan but not sure if that would over complicate things

Very well might indeed.

It was a 30 second of the top of my head and right after I posted that was exactly my thought - over scienced it at the end.

Gracias,

Glenn
