North star 1866 Rules
« on: March 13, 2012, 03:30:57 PM »
Just seen these figures and fell in love with them.

Any idea which wargame rules that I could use for this period at Battalion level and skirmish level ?

I'm basing my painted figures up for Crusader Publishings Rank and File.

Mark Sims has threatened to do a pdf of 1866 army lists as well for these rules.

Black Powder is a very popular set of rules right now, they cover the period nicely. I'll be able to use my R&F based figures for BP as well.

How about background reading? I'm almost completely ignorant of this war, but I'm a sucker for Austrians and these figures look great!

Oddly enough I logged into Consimworld this morning and saw a blurb for this new board game on 1866:

I'd recommend Road to Koniggratz by Helion. But that is an expensive buy. The rule set '1866' (don't know who it is by) has lots of great background and illustrations which is a great starting point, but the game is for 6mm figures.

Thanks Nick. It doesn't look like it is in the local library system, although I can get my hands on Wawro's "The Austro-Prussian War : Austria’s war with Prussia and Italy in 1866" easily enough. The NYPL Vinkhuijzen collection seems to have an abundance of uniform plates for the period. The main problem now is that it will become yet another pile of Lead I enjoy painting and then do nothing with...
