The silk road
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:33:30 AM »
Some of you will already know Valencian fallas, built in every square of the city to be burnt at the end of the local festival (that's tomorrow). I spotted this one with a very exotic theme. Not a miniature, pretty much the opposite:

Yeah I saw this on the news last night - VERY cool stuff. Then after spending so much time, money, and energy on these works of art in the end they burn it all :(

Something deep within me revels in the idea of building something beautiful simply to destroy it. How much more precious it is, that it only exists for a brief moment. Something primal, pagan and forgotten in throwing away or destroying precious things.

And the pyromaniac in me absolutely adores the idea of sending it to its doom by burning it.

Yeah, let's build a wicker man, and put whoever wins the LPL, and all their figures in it as an offering to the gods!

Edit: The civilised, conditioned outward shell of Plynkes is, like you guys, horrified by this idea of burning beautiful things. But somewhere, deep down in the stygian depths of my being, is a little wild Plynkes with horns and hooves, who probably isn't wearing any trousers or pants, and he's going...  "Fuck yeah!"

Fine with me, if I can come out on top of the LPL :)

Such a cool sculpture... I think it is so hard to pull off 'cartoon' in 3D. I hadn't heard of this custom- I kind of feel like I did when I was a kid watching Ripley's and seeing some weird thing from far away :) So, thanks for that!

The Druid were not into Human Sacrifice, the Romans said they were! good reson for them to go and kill them all or most of them.

IIRC, there's archaeological evidence that is consistent with human sacrifice in Iron Age Britain - but, ironically, only as a panic response to the Roman invasion.
