Great looking toy dropship - Avengers Quinjet
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:05:20 AM »
I saw one of these today, in our local Toys R'Us:

You just need to do what Ironworker does and paint the cockpit to make it fit 28mm scale.

And here's some cool details:

- there's a cargo hold in the back, that opens and here you can fit some minis in

- and it comes with a flying base:

Now for the bad news - it doesn't come with weapons (altough you can strap Iron Man in one of the wings  :P) unless you count that stupid pop-up missile launcher on top. And it can get pretty expensive, at least here in Portugal - it costs 60€!!! (for me that's almost armed robbery - i can get it for half of that, with shipping included if I buy it on Ebay.co.uk :'( :'( :'().

You can see a review, with lots of pics here:

I picked up one of these a couple days ago.  It has a lot of potential and I love it when a toy ship comes with landing gear.  gonna take a bit more work to wargameize it than I thought but that's ok.

Thx for the heads-up! I'd say that's prolly the best "usuable for 28mm scale" drop ship toy I've seen so far. Definitely have to see if I can find one... Going for less than 60€ of course. It's good but it's not quite that good.

I've just got back from Toys R Us in the UK and these are £35-00 each. Why the ones in mainland Europe are so expensive is anyone's guess.

wow - 35£ (45 euros) to 60 euros is quite an improve!

Considering that it needs some work to be accetable, i think it's way too much!

Higher VAT would be mine.

Please post pictures when you convert it  :o Your work is always an inspiration and it was your spaceport project that made me start buying toy ships  :D

Same here... And this kind of toys usually don't go to the discount bins. Sometimes I really hate to live in Portugal  :?

Shocked, yes shocked, it is, at such a suggestion:

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

This may be a stupid question, but why is it called a "Quinjet"?  I only count two jet engines, not five.
Back from the dead, almost.

The jets the Avengers use have always been called Quinjets; I wonder if perhaps the original drawing had five of something? In fact, you know what? I bet the internet know. Let me check.

(Checks)

Yeah, according to Wikipedia they have five engines, so figure the toy just kept the name. Also, they're infamous for being destroyed shortly after turning up in the comic.

Let's bomb the colonies!

Ahem. That sounds be much more sensible. I'd consider even 25 € (ca. $33) a reasonable price.

Bit of a grave-dig I know, but I've got one of these and I'm bashing it into a dropship which you can find here; http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=51546.0

Mine didn't come with a flight stand though.
