John Carter Movie
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:37:20 AM »
I'm sure this is not news to you guys, but while looking for details of the new Solomon Kane movie, I found out that Solomon actor James Purefoy is to play John Carther in the new John Carter OF Mars movie. Apparently it is in post production with a schedualed release in 2012

I am pretty sure its a Disney/Pixar flick.  Some info on it on a Disney fan site called "Blue Sky"....

According to IMDB, James Purefoy is playing Kantos Kan, not John Carter.

Much to my wifes delight, John Carter is to be played by Taylor Kitsch.  He played Gambit in the recent Wolverine:Origins movie.  Most women that I know reckon that he is a hoochie coochie.

Dejah Thoris is being played by the actress who played Wolverines wife "Silver Fox" in the same Wolverine movie, Lynn Collins.

Willem Dafoe is Tars Tarkas and Samantha Morton plays Sola, another prominent green martian.  I think that the movie is a Disney/Pixar as previously mentioned.  Unlike most (all?) previous Pixar offerings this one isnt 100% CG:  it has live action elements.

I figure that it will look a bit like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 and maybe Avatar.  That level of CG-ness.

I read somewhere a few months back that Disney hope this franchise to be another of "Pirates of the Caribbean" levels of magnitude.

The potential for three or so John Carter movies made by Pixar!!  Colour me excited...

I have been putting off painting up my Dark Age figures until 2012 in anticipation of this movie... fingers crossed.

The John Carter film is to be live action and will be directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall E). Andrew is also doing the screenplay.  Not sure at this stage if it is based on the first book or a composite of several books but I can't wait to see it!

Meanwhile Asylum films are releasing a John Carter film

Some nice cheezy acting and effects to look forward to!

Cheers

Fuzzy.

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

I've seen the Asylum movie and, even with the somewhat ironic casting of Traci Lords as Dejah Thoris, it is pretty bad even by the standards of their other productions.

I met James Purefoy at Comicon 2009. I literally bumped into him and he's one helluv nice guy. Not smug at all, at least not to me.
