Michi I LOVE everything except the ground colour.

The overriding memory of east african earth is how red/orange it is. Really a shockingly vibrant colour. I'd never use a true tone as it would actually look garish but you may have toned it down a tadge far?

Just a thought Sir. Just an opinion.

You are totally right. It looks more greyish than it is in the photos. They turned out a bit on the blue side. You may spot that on the bags and on the machinegun as well. The latter is perfectly grey in reality. So the soil is as well much more of a rusty reddish brown than it appears. Very good perception of yours!

East African Campaign was a series of battles and guerrilla actions over German East African and other countrys
This covers a wide range of soil and Rock vegatation colours and this changes with the time of year.

Even better to learn that news, thanks David.

The uniforms are base coated Vallejo 72040 leather brown and highlighted with layers of progressively added white. Leather is mixed black and 72043 beasty brown and the bags are a mixed tone of bleu grey, black, white and yellow.

The bush north west of Longido, smack on the border between British and German East (or Kenya and Tanzania, if you prefer). The front line from 1914-16 and an area that saw some heavy fighting. Don't think you are too far off at all, Michi. I would agree with Bezzo that the red soil is more iconically East African, but as the photo shows, it is not the only option and your way is fine too.

Beautiful work Michi, as always.

So how many Askari are hiding in this picture?
They've got great camouflage.  :D

That is some of the most beautiful painting I have ever seen! :-*  First class work Michi, first class.  Don't worry about the bases either, as already said red dirt is 'iconic', but what you've done looks great; just like what's in the photo.
