I really hope H. Beam Piper is on that. Well worth a look. Lots of his stuff is free to download and print on Project Gutenberg! Both the Us and Australia sites!
All the original R E Howard Conan stories are on the Aussie site too.  lol

Ah yes - Stargate I loved, well worth a look.

Am going into my local 2nd hand bookshop and charity shops with a short list of names - let's see what I can find!

If we can't find locally we often use Abe - http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ - a sort of network of 2nd hand bookshops if you're not familiar.

Otherwise I would suggest a day trip to Hay on Wye - there are some really good bookshops, including a couple that specialise in SF
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

The Sci-Fi books I really enjoyed and I thought gave some good inspiration for different worlds were the "Peace Company" series by Roland Green -

Peace Company
These Green Foreign HIlls
The Mountain Walks (my personal favourite - set on a human world settled by different Christian groups who have "fallen out")

Will do, guys, thanks. The main 2nd hand bookshop proved a disappointment for old SF, but I will keep trying.
