The pervasiveness of fantasy clichés makes even good old Hamlet look like a Dwarven Warrior!

Very nice!

I have also been bit by the bug!! On a side note has anyone got any suggestions for Aquilonians? I am so far going with some Praetorians with greek head swap and some oop GW empire round sheilds with lion design.
Any ideas from the Conan fanatics out there?

Big Spider gets a checkmark for starring in Tower of the Elephant. My stable of Conan foes began with Reaper's serpent-men, and now I'm filling the ranks of a Beastman army. Inspiration comes mostly from the comics, and artists like Buscema, Nebres, Norem...all the guys that worked for Marvel and Warren back then.

Those toy vinyl snakes look great, I'll have to find a vendor for colossal critters. A common foe I can't find seems to be the degenerate "vampire humanoids". For a good match they need thin bodies with a troll-like shamble, combined with a demon-bat head. Ghouls are close but often sculpted for a gothic graveyard setting.

My camera broke today.  :( Hopefully it will at least start working again on friday, when our gaming groups meets and i´ll have a chance to test Matakishis CORM rules. I´m currently building things i need for a little scenario.

By the way i´m starting to write my blog bilingual. I don´t know, how to differentiate optically between the german and the english part, so that the english part will be easily found. Or is it ok without an optical help?
I have even included a Kategorie "English" to help you find those articles containing english language.

Camera still broken! :P

What´s the most obvious thing to do, if you don´t have a snake statue at hand? Make a tentacled frog statue! :D

Only have one miniature to go and finish five terrain pieces tomorrow for a little try run of CROM at our game club meeting on friday. I even build a 60 by 60 cm gaming board. The frog statue thing will get gems for eyes and been put on a small ruin piece.

I am going to go with some Republican Romans someday.  IMO the classical look of them fits the Aquilonian look.

It´s no fun having a broken camera and being broke.  ;D So here is another crappy picture. :P

Since i have invited some friends over for some barbecue and a game of CROM at the end of the month i´m working hard to make the deadline. Right now i´m painting some slave traders, three wise men and some serpent warriors. After that there are some more civilians and some warriors awaiting paint. And i still have to build the city for the first scenario. So there is still a lot of work ahead.

After some test games of CROM at the local gaming club people are asking for more. So there will gladly be a lot Conan in the future. :D What we´ll add to CROM are skill cards with special feats the characters can use once in the game.

What i´m looking for are some cultist miniatures and wings to convert some apes. Any suggestions? I would prefer featherly wings for the apes.

[EDIT]The civilians in the picture are mostly Foundry Ancient Egypt with some Hobby Products warriors and thief and a snake priest from some board game.

Looks interesting. Too bad about the pic quality. But hopefully we can see better pictures once you get the chance.

Thanks for sharing still :)

LOL!

I bought the exact same snakes and frogs to do something weird for my nurgle army a year or so ago (of course I never got anywhere but buying them...)  lol

Love the snakes especially!

This thread turns out to be more and more interesting. From what I can see, your Conan project is really going in the right direction. And Andy sure has some sweet pics to inspire going further that way.  :)

On a side note has anyone got any suggestions for Aquilonians?
According to the comics or to Howard's writings? Illustrations -specially in comics- generally betray the texts. for instance in 'Black Colossus' the Khorajan knights are depicted in full plate armor (an unique case in Hyborian times, -with the possible exception of Poitain?), and they are followed by an equal number of 'impoverished Hyborians' who cannot afford a horse or a suit of armor. Then in the comics the knights wear only a light helmet, and the 'poor ones' are clad in mail from head to toe!
Aquilonians wear a mixture of mail and plate (what Howard calls 'jaseran'). Regarding armor Aquilonia seems more advanced than the other 'Hyborian' nations. When Conan ('The Hour of the Dragon') wears a suit of chainmail it is identified by a non-specialist as 'Nemedian armor'. Also, the regular Bossonians and Gundermens (weapons wise English / Welsh longbowmen and early Renaissance Swiss, respectively) are more heavily armored than the Shemite archers in Koth service, so would be extra-heavy infantry.
Most other 'Hyborians' would look like taken from 'Prince Valiant', I suspect.
