Thanks

Right then... Here's my first gun crew.
Brigade Games only do one RN gun crew, and one or two of the poses are hard to love (much as I love Hicksy and his work!)
I've therefore been casting about for suitable figures for gun crews.
I tried Britannia - but they turned out to be a bit too big and lumpy in style, so I've shipped those on.
Then at Salute, I paid a visit to the Newline Designs stand. Bingo!
These figures have been about for quite a long time, so they are a tad static compared to most of today's figures.
But there are about 20 different gun crew figures available, they're quite finely detailed, and they scale in pretty well with my Hicks-sculpted figures. (A whisker shorter, but that's easily fixed by double mounting them on washers... )
Some of the sculpting detail is a little shallow and perhaps lacking in a bit of character though. So I've been busy with the Green Stuff, and here are the results...
I've added pigtails where they were missing, luxuriant sideburns, extra shaggy sponge/rammers, more raffish battered top hats, a few sailcloth trouser patches, and some sailorly bellbottoms on some of them... I've also bulked up the shoulders a bit here and there.
I was sorely tempted to try a concertina on the chap carrying chainshot - the pose is perfect for it - but decided that was a bit of a stretch for my fledgling sculpting skills
(Possibly on gun crew #2 though...

)

And here, with a Hicks/Empress Maori Wars figure for size comparison... (He is going to fulfill the part of Ship's doctor)
Mounting them on a 20mm washer atop a 25mm washer, raises them up just about the right amount, so any different in size won't be noticeable.

Think I'll get these chaps painted, then move onto a second gun crew...
