The Mexican Major
« on: May 05, 2012, 12:41:55 AM »
I am severely tempted to paint up a Mexican cavalry unit, as shown in the Frederick Remington print The Mexican Major:

I have figured out where to get the cavalry, or at least something close enough, but does somebody make a 25mm/28mm mounted and dismounted version of the flamboyant major?

Thanks!

Neat picture.
A tough one about the Major.
I have a few Dixon Mexican riders but they are waving guns.
Also checked a few packs of Cowboy Wars figures, same problem.
Trying to find a figure just standing is going to be a problem.
The only other line of figures is Foundry.
You might look at their Maximillian line MAX001, French or Imperial Command.
Hope you find one, would be cool.

How about the Governer from the pack Mex 8 from Boot Hill miniatures?

Plenty of other great characters in the range, too.

Foundry has a mounted officer with sombrero and waving a sabre in their old Maximillian War range that is quite close to this.

For the cav, you could use,
Foundry Franco Prussian War French African Chasseurs.
I think they would look good.

So what are you using for the cavalry?

I was thinking of Ebor Miniatures 1914 Belgian Chasseurs a Cheval: http://www.eborminiatures.com/products-page/belgian-chasseurs-a-cheval-1914/

Coats are a bit short, but lengthening them into tunics with greenstuff is not too hard, unless Gringo decides to do Mexican Regular Cavalry.
