Bubbles Zombie Horde and Gaming Board.
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:16:48 PM »
Well after all the great advice i got from my previous thread i decided to kick things off with the begginings of my zombie horde.

Its not much at the moment but every great horde must start somewhere, hopeful my ten pack of zombified army troopers from victory force will arrive soon.

im having trouble taking pictures of the board so im gonna borrow a camera and hopefully get everything sorted.

Nice. You're off to a good start. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Those new Victory Force Zombie Troopers look pretty good, too.

they do indeed, to bad he's not selling them anymore or at least for the time being; at least that's what the information says, i managed to get mine or the very last day.

This is the basic layout of the board (not the greatest pics, but i think its pretty decent for my third picture.)

The row of sqaures on the left hand side are going to be four of Matakishi's tea house inner city buildings

http://www.matakishi.com/makingcitybuildings.htm

the two empty lots will have some smaller shops to fill them in and maybe some large buildings like and office building, a medical centre inspired by Braz wonderful work (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=20971.0) a motel and maybe even a prison.

my new zombie troopers from victory force have finally arrive and i have to say i really like the miniatures and i think it was pretty fast to arrive here on the 8th of feb when i ordered them on the 30th of jan and to arrive here in australia the middle of nowhere is pretty good.

ive made little to no progress on the board coz ive got no money for materials and even if i did no way to transport them. to young to get a job, old enough to have expensive hobbies.

I'll second that. The kits aren't that expensive. you can print as much as you like.
only cost is paper (I use 200 and 250 g/m2) and ink. Even better is to have it printed professionaly.

Oh, and if you don't like paper boxes on your terrain, you can always use the patterns for scratchbuilding.

I dont really like the paper terrain because its really fragile and if i want to reinforce it with foamboard like Commander Vyper did it costs 10 bucks a sheet here but also i have a really shit printer and i want a 3d board anyway good news i have planned out 5 other boards of the same size to add to my city and if i learn how to scan things ill put up my design

Ouch. I pay €8.80 for a sheet of 70 by 100 cm (5mm thick)
That gets me several buildings.

P.S. paper models aren't fragile. Drop one on the floor, then drop a resin building...

Aussies have to pay something like triple for just about everything here.

I might have a look at those paper buildings then wont I. but anyway the boards are 30 by 90 by 3mm and there will be 6 of them or more if i get bored. I drew this design up in about 5 minutes so its pretty dodgy but it doesnt really matter as long as the actual board has finesse. the roads and stuff might be a little of but anyway.

Most of the city is Urban but ive added a small dock because i have always loved the idea of survivors escaping from the infected by boat and ive also added a shopping mall, not sure how the interiors going to look but ill get to that later.

In a tottally unrelated note to the project, my artwork skills have actually surprised me with this guy even though he is rather messy as he probably my best drawing ever as most of my drawings are just stickfigures

Well after a bit of time off from my project I have gotten back to it. mostly thinking and a bit of work I have decided to make A few Modifications to my board. First off I had to redesign the first bit because it had some meausurement inaccuracies leading to some odd bits. so I fixed it up and it gave me some more space so I added a subway entrance and a snack shack.

And this is the second part of the board. Its only dominating feature is going to be the construction site.

And these are both boards together.

for the construction site Im going to steal whoevers idea it was to make nuked building shells out of milk crates and instead of making them blackened and broken ill make it more metally or redish coloured to look like a building in progress.

So I was thinking wouldnt it be interesting if you could go underground in the games and then I thought why not so I stole the idea of having a sub level to the gaming board. sewers, basements and a underground subway.

So Im going to have my top level of buildings and then the manholes will lead into sewers that goes all the way to the ocean bit and also has a few walls drilled out/knocked down by survivors to get either in or out of basements. The subway stations will go across the board and the tunnels will be linked by sewer entrances. The sewers will be a mix of tunnels as wide as the road and as thin as the footpaths in order to allow the zombie players to be able to encircle and attack the the human player.

The basements will be as tall as another floor on one Of Matakishi's inner city buildings meaning I can comfortably fit some scenery in there. This will all be Cut into a pretty thick piece of blue or pink polystyrene. So this also means I can create a dock thats actually tall and has those wood things whatever they're called that has people fishing off them going into the water instead of just a 3mm piece of MDF ontop of another piece of 3mm MDF coloured blueish.

Anyway Thats all I have done and as usual I lack the vocubalary to sufficiently explain the situation so what do you guys think.

So I planned out the next boards. they're nothing special just some more urban area.

1st board by itself.

2nd board by itself

If you can see some of the footpaths arent completely big enough to fit all the way around and there are some gaps so Im remeding this by planning to fill it with bins, vending machines and sometimes telphone poles allowing survivors to climb up to the roof of a building.

So anyway the plans for the underground bit are gonna get drawn out soon so thats pretty much it.
