Thank you Mr Malamute. I'll try to wash my adobes tomorrow and post the results. I suppose like everything else its all trial and error.

Cheers

Ok some WIP shots for you:

A couple showing the base coat and the dark wash around the bottom.

Now with top two coats and doors etc painted:

Some close ups:

I hope they give you some ideas. As you see when viewed close up its a  pretty basic paint technique. Something else which might help a bit. I sand the models alot after the render has been added to try and give them a smooth plastered look. I don't like the finish to be too rough.

Well I spent most of today finishing the adobe. Thank you again Mr Malamute, I followed your recipe as an example. Only I think I went for more 'Eastern' desert colours than the 'Mexican Desert' colours of our lovely adobes.

Believe it or not there are four coats of paint on these buildings!

Notice the archway has broke! D'oh. I'm hoping that pva and some extra filler will help to fix it.

A a view of the right hand side of the board

And now the left

I'm fairly happy with the results. In my opinion they look much better than before, and look cohesive without each one being identical. I'm sure that when I add the finishing touches they will look much better (I'll be painting the bases when I do the board at the weekend). So doors, windows etc still to do.

Obviously I've not be able to stick to my to do list/agenda. I'm a day behind, I'll actually need to put the project on hold until the weekend because I'm working away from home for a couple of days. Still that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I haven't worked on the museum in a while. I've just submitted an order to antenocitis for some bits and pieces that I need. I'm hoping to try something a little different with the museum, something that I'm not sure that I've seen done before. But its experimental so we'll just need to wait and see if it works.

Cheers
Andy

They are looking great, I am sure they will all come together even more once you do the doors etc. Can't wait to see this finished, perhaps it will travel to BLAM ;) :D

It will indeed travel to BLAM!!! Right?!  lol

I really like it. I've been trying to sketch off some of your designs so I can copy them whenever I get my hands on some foamboard.

Main difference between yours and Malarmute's  seems to be that your lids go off?! Hard one to tackle... I really like it, but I don't have the interior to fill with. But being able to use the buildings inside - priceless.

Try Najewitx Modellbau, see if he will sell just roofing. He has that style on his Roman buildings.

You can make it easily enough.  Using the same technique that I use for corrugated metal.

Here is the link.

You will be able to make as much as you want. Just cut in thinner strips.

Thanks for that snitcy; that might actually work!

For the last couple of days my living room has been turned into a paint workshop. I've been batch painting all of the bases etc. A surprisingly large job. I'm happy to show you the results.

Please note that the palm trees still need some remedial drybrushing. Nothing too advanced, but they should appear on my painting desk tomorrow.

I've still to paint the wood work. Shouldn't be a long job; although I do need to remember the recipe that I like to use. My original plan was to include doors and shutter. These may need to be added to the buildings after MacLAM since I already have a museum to finish aswell.

You may notice that the museum isn't on the board just now. That's because I've not added much to it. I'll be working on it on Wednesday; probably during my lunch time at work too.

This is the small blacksmiths that I've been working on. All the resin bits are from Frontline blacksmith set. The chimney is just carved blue foam. Obviously it needs a dry brush. Now just to find a suitable blacksmith model.

Cheers
Andy
