Russian Grenades - What colour?
« on: May 29, 2012, 05:51:49 AM »
Hello All,
I'm wondering what colour are the grenades that most Copplestone Reds have dangling from their belts? I see that were made from tin, but most originals seem to have traces of original paint (?) olive maybe or dark brown besides some rust. So what colour should I paint them? Sorry...the internet in this case wasn't much help. Thanks - Spaceba!

While working on my East Front Mud & Blood supplement, I found a site on this.  http://www.inert-ord.net/russ02i/gas/index.html

Has pictures of several Great War era grenades from the Russians that have at least a little paint left on them.

Interesting site.  Seems the Russians pioneered a "gas Grenade" for clearing out bunkers and the like.

Hope it helps.

At Copplestone on the figurines depicted a hand grenade Rdultovsky M.1914, or RG-14.
 I saw a picture of a pomegranate, painted in olive green or colorless, but with a colored band - marking. It is possible that not only had the color of special grenades.

 Here are photos of thermite incendiary grenades:

Cuprum;
The hand grenade Rdultovsky M.1914, or RG-14. Was that a fragmentation grenade? or smoke gas grenade?

Fragmentation grenade. How does the smoke gas grenade - I do not know.
 The photo that I have invested - an incendiary grenade. Designed for the fact that to set fire to an object.

 Here is a description of the grenade in the English language:

 But the details - in Russian:

Ah ok...just fragmentation.  I misunderstood. Thanks - the Russian article was very interesting.
