Modern African Union
« on: April 20, 2012, 11:50:49 PM »
I was wondering if anyone makes any 28mm figures that would do for African Union Troops or police- South Africa, Nigeria etc. Ideally up to date/ultra modern. I don't mind doing a bit of converting etc.
Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/
And for Ultra-modern Wargaming check out Hotel Zugando at http://ultramoderngaming.blogspot.co.uk/

Rob, it might be worth taking a shufti around the Mongrel Miniatures, TAG, and Eureka ranges, if you are looking at 28mm. I can't guarantee it but you might well find something usable, in 15mm, Peter Pig have a load of stuff in their AK47 ranges. Good Hunting.

I've seen plenty of soldiers under the African Union banner wearing Fritz helmets and carrying kalashnikovs.
So if you're not in a hurry Empress have promised some generic soldiers wearing Fritz helmets and carrying AK-type rifles.
They should do nicely for some an awful lot of countries, including Nigeria and other AU member states.

Fritz helmets and ak47s would be alright for some countries, but a lot of African countries equally use FN FALs, G3s, HKs etc. AK47 are more common amongst militias.

I don't think any of the African armies currently fighting in Somalia (that are not Somalian) use AK47s/74s etc etc, but I could be wrong.

I wondered about this but a quick picture search suggests that they are are all using AK type rifles and Russian LMGs - I think from the picture captions the ones in Fritz type helmets are Ugandans, but there are aslo pictures of Burundians, Kenyans and Djiboutians as well (although some look like they may be in older style helmets),

..............and I would be interested in some modern africans in Fritz helmets as well (with whatever weaponry)

This is very helpful stuff. Thank you.

I think I might try converting the TAG Russians or African Millitia by doing head swops- does anyone make separate heads for modern troops?

Alternatively, is the modern 'fritz' helmet similar enough to the old WW2 german helmet that I could use the West wind german one? Especially under canvas?
