"Captain, your orders, burn the village."
« on: May 04, 2012, 04:49:55 PM »
A small game I put on when a friend came to visit when he was on vacation.
Rules used were The Sword in Africa.
The terrain and figures painted by me.
Also the poor photos by me. :-[ or lol
A few general views of the terrain.

The French advance. Two small unit of French, a unit of Tirailleurs, a guide and his gun bearer and the Captain.

On the native side six units. Only two units on the table, in the village. Other four units enter the table on die roles.
So the French had to get into and burn the village before the natives get back from raiding.

Part Two
A view of the French from the trees.

The Natives start to enter the table. I got some good die roles that got units on the table faster than I have hoped.

A Native unit with muskets that came up behind the French.

Ruga Rugas in the trees ready to blast the French.

The Native musket unit charges, rolls a great die roll and hits the French in the rear. They kill a few and the rest run in the jungle.

The Native unit then retreats, happy to have done their part to defeat the French.

Part 3.
On the other flank, the Ruga Rugas fire a volley at the French. When the smoke had cleared only one Frenchman was down. The French
charge and make short work of them.

Mean while the Tirailleurs make it to the village. They start to burn the huts, (well one hut) That's the black stuff in the photo.
One can see that the Natives move to the attack.

The poor Tirailleurs are attacked by a number of Native units and soon lose to the large numbers of Natives.

The captured Tirailleurs about to be used for "sport" by the Natives.
The French Captain seeing all was lost retreated. He had to come up with the reason for his defeat, to tell the Colonel.

Until my eyes focused properly, I thought the couch was a clever bit of hills.  Oh, the disillusionment!

The vines in the trees sobered me up in the end.   :-*

Looks like fun

How did Sword in Africa work for you? I love S&F but never bothered with the African supplement
"Ho, ho, ho! Well, if it isn't fat stinking billy goat Billy Boy in poison! How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!"

Thanks for all the nice comments about the game everyone.

H.M. Stanley,
I thinK of the Sword in Africa as the S and F lite.
There are really no morale rules and the units are usually smaller.
A fun addition to the rules are event tables that can make the game change quickly.
All in all I tend to play them more that S and F, which I love.
