Good work of conversions. In the old time i have done similar work but on  my 15mm Spartacus army.

If you want to add more variation to your romans, look in the greek/romans/carthaginians light infantry range like these simple examples in the Crusader ranges. Do this for each manucfacturer and the options are endless  :
with a simple change of heads, these lybians get the job !


Without any change, the numidians :


With these balearic slingers, just cut off the sling for hand to hand weapons :


Roman for roman civilians, logical isn't it ?


Penal legion, no change :

Thanks- I'd not thought of headswaps on the Numidians.  I do have quite a few of those in use as as Numidians, but I don't like them quite as much as the Foundry Numidian range (which I could headswap... hmmm).

OTOH the Roman LI and Penal Infantry would work nicely... I'll bear them in mind if I need to expand the mob!

Inspired by this thread, I bought some Aventine gladiators, slaves, leves etc. Really nice figures. I immediately compared them to some Foundry Darkest Africa I have, and was stunned that many of the figures have bodies that are practically identical matches. I sent an email to Aventine out of curiosity.

I received the figures I ordered yesterday, they look good.

I was wondering who your sculptor was on the gladiators, and the Leves, which look like they may have been done by someone else.

The nude gladiators are almost identical in style and pose to some of Foundry's Darkest Africa natives and look like Mark Copplestone did them.  He's my favorite sculptor and my interest was piqued.

Yes you are right about the Spartacus range, they are based on Copplestone Darkest  Africa sculpts. Mark left Foundry with his green and used them on verious ranges, they were bought up by Companion Miniatures and were not part of the sale to the current owner. We produce that range for the original owner of Companion.

The leves RR04 are sculpted by Adam Smith.

I'm a little shocked that I'm that familiar with the native bodies of the Africa range. I am reminded of this quote, by Plynkes, which could potentially be applied to me as well
