So a chap in the local club bought some Quickshade,
It works just fine for him. I've had nothing but problems.
The first batch I decanted into a plastic cup. Unbeknownst to me, it apparently dissolved the cup, turning the mixture into a sort of plastic paste. The finished figures looked rather as if they'd been coated in a mixture of marine spar varnish and tobacco juice.
So the lads organized a bit of a remedial class for me, in which it was discovered that I could work their Quickshade just fine, thank you very much. But they couldn't work MY tin of the stuff. It seems to be a different, much thicker, mix.
Now the back of the tin recommends thinning with "tiny amounts of mineral turpentine." I infer that this is somehow different from 'Pure Gum Turpentine.' Well, none of the local hardware stores here in LA seem to know what this stuff actually is. They sold me some 'Mineral Spirits' that did thin the Quickshade, but it also took the dried paint right off the figure.
Any help as to what this "Mineral Turpentine" is named in Los Angeles, USA ?
Thanks,
MW
