Game Tiles -- Almost nearly partially completed
« on: June 03, 2012, 07:04:53 PM »
Several months ago I started wanting something different for our gaming table. I decided to base it on 18”x18” tiles for a couple reasons. I started with four fairly simple designs, but each tile has some feature that rises above and sinks below the baseline. Here are some photos of the work in progress…

Once the basic tile features were made, each tile was covered with a couple coats of texture goo. Then we applied some wood filler, as shown below….

Next we covered the tiles with several layers of very wet paint, hoping to get some natural looking patterns…

And after the wet stuff, came the dry-brushing. This step was all about having a big brush and light touch….

This shot may give a better view of some of the details….

We still have a few more steps to go, but I’m happy with how the new tiles are shaping up. More to come!

THANKS!
Dave

I too am intrigued by the tin foil. I presume it covers the earlier picture of the underground room?

The tiles are “mostly done”, so here’s some quick photos of the new board along with some of our terrain and Pulp Alley leagues. I’ll try to get some proper pics posted when I’m rested.…

Captain Wolf gets a good deal on some valuable cargo.…

Baron Charnock enjoys the view from his villa.…

Le Borgne and his men prepare for a raid.…

Phantom Ace watches Agent Pixler question one of the locals about a strange hole in the ground.…

Singapore Smith and her crew keep a watchful eye over the village.…

Any who come seeking the lost temple, must face Princess Tigra and the Last Guardians….

THANKS!

This kind of tiles are very convenient. It offers many possibility, depending on how you put them together. And yours are very well done. And I don't speak about your wonderful sceneries.

Well when i first saw those flat hills I wasn't convinced. But the finished effect with buildings, figures and everything is really great. And i like the red earth. I've got a set of red earth boards too, for Afghanistan. Or South Devon  ;)

The tiles look great.  :-*

A very simple concept that adds a lot of depth to what would normally be a standard, flat, playing board.
