Cloud giant for Otherworld minis (by me)
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:26:43 PM »
"]

Richard said that I could post up this sculpt that I finished for him yesterday.
At 90mm it's by far the largest sculpt that I have completed. It's like a different skill from sculpting 28mm tall figures and a steep learning curve! It was also intimidating sculpting a figure to go alongside Paul's giants and naturally there are things that I feel I could have done better but over all I'm very pleased with the outcome.
Sculpted in Uro polymerclay with a pinch of Supersculpy firm mixed in to little parts here and there for supersoft blending, theres also a little bit of ProCreate used to affix the club to the body and the form the the basic core (for the sculpting nerds).
Hope you like him.

Alter Schwede.

This really is one of the best sculpts I have seen in recent times. The drapery is spot on.
Kudos.

Stunning work. Really nice job at capturing a southeast asian sort of look there. That's not a common minis sculpting theme by any means, so well done on getting the look so evocative while maintaining your own unique feel.

FramFramson, it's based on the David A. Trampier cloud giant illustration from the original AD&D Monster Manual. Only it's more detailed and very nice. That's what Otherworld miniatures does mostly. They make minis of the monsters and things in the original AD&D hardcover books that look as much as they can like they did in those books. It's a cool sort of "old school" nostalgia thing for those people that like their Kobolds to be little dog people instead of tiny lizard critters.

Love the sculpt! Much nicer then the grenadier beardy one that I have lying around! This one even beats the old Ral Partha Garrity giant, which is actually quite nice.
Just need to find an excuse to use (and buy) so many giants...  might need to get back into D&D....   lol

Ah, I didn't know that illustration, thanks for posting it.

And Andrew, your sculpt is lovely. I love those teeth (adding a nice inhuman feature) and the fact that this isn't a giant greek like many later illustrations of cloud giants.

Brilliant!  He'll crush any adventuring party into a fine paste, and do so in a very neo-classical manner!  Really super-sculpt.

I have to say that Otherworld continues to be the Gold Standard of dungeon fantasy miniatures, and this is another example of why that is.

Fantastic!  That may go in my collection.  I'm really a fan of Otherworld figs.  I have the Satyr bowman and its a great sculpt.  Easily one of my favorites.

Would love to see you turn your hand to some Satyrs.

As always, a BEAUTIFULLY DONE creation...he really looks like T.S.R's original concept art. It is scant wonder that you have become my hero.

That's really nicely done. Is it going to be resin? I suspect since it is one solid piece.

Thanks guys!  :)
To answer the question, I think he's going to be metal, it just made sense to sculpt him in one piece.

That satyr was the forst OW figure I ever owned.  He's a lovely chap.
