UN Peacekeepers

do you have UN Peacekeepers in your forces?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Along with other items of soft cover with which to dress the table, I might.  :D

I'm doing a new modern warfare game which will include police forces, security forces, mobs, and non-lethal aspects of crowd control etc...so at some point I will, yes.  Could make for some very interesting wargaming.

I'm a bit on the fence, not sure what I would do with them.

I have some French in berets I plan to paint up as UN forces.
Have started painting Zanla Africans for my make believe Africa nation.
Have a large number of Somalis painted for a Black Hawk game.
These I will use to go against the more regular Africa army guys.

They certainly could make games interesting.
I have a few mates who served as peacekeepers in Lebanon with the Irish army, so gaming Lebanon without UNIFIL sounds unthinkable to me (not that I actually would want to, mind you...).
Have them operate checkpoints across the table, which either delay the forces as papers are checked or halt their movement altogether.
If the accounts I've heard can be trusted, then UNIFIL was quite well equipped, with Browning .5s in support and AML-90s as mobile reserve. Just bringing that firepower to bear should be difficult.
Give them a strict set of rules of engagement and, of course, they can't fire unless fired upon.  ;)

Save for a Eureka Swat figure test painted with a blue helmet, no UN troops, per se. I do have a goodly selection of French, Germans, German painted as Spaniards etc that could be used as UN forces. Were I to ever do the Congo I'd certainly field some Ghurkas and maybe on or two of the Irish contingent.

On the whole though UN military missions since Korea have tended to be peacekeeping, monitoring and stabilisation missions, so there is a greatly reduced scope for gaming save for hostile attacks on UN forces and even there, the ROE's are often quite restrictive in keeping with the mission profile. As certain UN tasks like aid programs, lection monitors etc now use PMCs you could use the new Eureka range for those.

No problem with gaming UN forces, given suitable ROEs. Not sure I'd bother with the Irish in UNIFIL, Brave lads no doubt but almost the entirety of their military role is a watching brief. That and avoiding deliberately targeted Israeli artillery fire.

No because I'm more into wargaming than sitting-around-writing-reports-and-not-doing-much-else-gaming.  :`

 lol lol

I am going to add some African Union troops to my collection. I am probably going to use the Assult Group Russian army, but with a head swop to a WW2 german 'Fritz' style helmet. (I am not too worried how 'historically accurate' my figures are, I am more intrested it how cool they look on the table top).
