Khurasan previews first paintups of Neptune SPAR TacMech
« on: May 31, 2012, 03:26:08 AM »
Here are the first images of the painted Neptune SPAR TacMech, which is the heavy support unit for the Federal Navy's SPAR teams.  SPAR teams are the elite special ops troops of the Federation.

The decision was made to back up the SPAR teams with a TacMech rather than a vehicle because of its ability to navigate all sorts of terrain and the utility of its arms for assisting the team in operations.  Also the TacMech is much quieter and has more of an ability to conceal itself than a vehicle.

The basic armament of the Neptune is a superheavy plasma rifle, which is a separate weapon from the TacMech and can be put down so that both arms of the TacMech can be employed in lifting or other manipulation.  Backing up the main armament are two shoulder hardpoints, which most commonly mount seeker antipersonnel missiles but can alternately mount tankslayer missile launchers or the RMGS (Rapid-fire Multi-purpose Gun System).

Some pictures, painted by Dags.

For scale, here it is compared to a roughly human-sized Space Demon.

And above it's compared to the big Python power armoured suit of Nova Respublik.  It towers over that large suit.

Here are all of the pieces from both Neptune sets.  Both sets?

Yes, there's two!  The basic kit comes with the plasma rifle arms, the leg set with the left leg forward, and the seeker missile shoulder pods.

There's an expansion set as well, which can be used to pimp multiple kits, and contains the empty-handed arms, the tankslayer missile tubes (shown in the buildup images), the RMGS, and the leg set with the right leg forward.

Coming alarmingly soon!

Too much information! Too much information! o_o

Ahem. More seriously. That's a threatening piece of hardware and certainly looks to be quite ubiquitous to boot. Very nice! Good paintjob too.

Da-yum! I didn't think you could do better than your 28mm Imperial Marines and the other 15mm mechs, but this one is awesome. I think I'll have to bite the customs bullet on this one.

That is a decent looking mech... definitely on a par with the LHAC.

It has a certain amount of the Marauder suit from the woeful ST3 movie... but looks much more mobile and functional than those.

The extra bits and bobs look good but I would question the sensibility of packaging all of the bits together... I'd rather have a set mech at a reduced price than a bunch of arms/legs/weapons that I wouldn't use for extra cost.  I expect that there will be differen versions rather than a kit with all the pieces.

Nice paint by Dags (as usual) and a nice mech, usable in multiple scales/sizes.  Can't say fairer than that.

I'm not a huge fan of walkers but that is a very, very nice walker.

It's a very good time to be a 15mm SF gamer, which makes it even more of a pity that it kind of petered out around here a couple of years ago. There were only a few of us into it and we've all been distracted by other things since.

So not too much "extras" there 8)

Oops! I guess I should read the post rather than just looking at the pics :D

After actually reading it, it says that the bits will be available as a separate kit... which is OK but you'll still have the same issue with additional spare parts... but I guess there isn't a way around it...

Still... it is a very nice kit :)

Pretty cool if you ask me, especially that it is holding a weapon, rather than the usual route of just having arms that are weapons.  Nice variation.

Those legs are a little too thin imo compared to the torso. I will sure buy a few of these but why do mechs look like bodybuilders who have only trained the upper torso. Those ankles also look like they could snap any minute.
