Creating 28mm Ironclad..? for naval landing game 1879
« on: June 01, 2012, 07:15:31 AM »
I am seeking to create a 28mm model of an Ironclad for my Pacific wars Landing game, wondered if anyone has ever built one in this scale and if so how..?

Thanks for any info in advance,

Geoff

Unless you've the space/skill/time etc you'll want to scale it down (a lot). Considering all it's going to be doing is sitting at the end of the board shelling things, I can't see a lot of point building something so bulky. Mine, for example, looks like an ironclad, without taking up the space of one. Also means you can use it in more situations than just shore bombardment (as in, it can go up rivers on your table, see photo).

I told you so. You damned fools.

Or you could go for a monster sized one like Ignatieff uses :

There is one on page 2 of this thread, but he also has access to a better one.

Hi Shipka,

Below is an 1879 Ironclad, the Amiral Duperre, for inspiration.

As for the construction techniques, I would suggest doing a search on steamers on LAF as there are many different examples of finished and WIP ships which show the various construction methods.

Best of luck and I hope to see your workup!

Regards,

Kev

That's so cool  :-*

You don't actually need to represent things like that on the board tho... Do you?

Not to say I wouldn't mind.
