What should I make out of this?
« on: June 15, 2012, 07:24:18 PM »
This is one of the toys that my boys broke lately - looks like it's ripe for making into something. This can be another child's toy (which they will fight over), costume prop, mini scenery, vehicle, weapon, whatever. No genre restrictions, though I've been making VSF lately.

What should I make this into? The flanges are about 1cm apart.

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

My first thought would be some kind of laser/plasma cannon?
Put a mount on the round end and paint it up brass with a green glow between the flanges, maybe

A spar torpedo?
Back from the dead, almost.

It's clearly a ray gun - or a gernsbackian retro-50's sci-fi radio/tv tower.

(Though in the latter case it should be snipped just where the handle ends and the shin part placed on top of the round end.

Or turn it into a tower or post (narrow pole at the bottom) with a round radio-picture screen at the top from which Emperor Ming can make pronouncements to his people.  The "honeycomb" shape in the middle is a set of multi-directional loudspeakers.

It is certainly a ray-gun of unusual provenance, but quite similar to the type employed by the Confederate states against the Chinese-Martian Alliance forces in the first Aether War.
This is my boomstick!

Alien lighthouse for a naval warfare game set on other planets that probably doesn't exist?

Cut the round end off and glue it to the thin rod on the other end. Mount it honycomb side down and now its a lighted (the tip looks like a light) antenna with a microwave transmitter. (the round glued thing)

I think the winner is a dragonfly automaton for any number of my VSF armies.
