Monty's 28mm Napoleonics (Update 13th January 2013: Black Watch finished)

Good afternoon fellow readers,

recently I started to build up a British force for Black Powder. I decided to follow Picton's 5th Division during the Waterloo campaign because I really like this chracterful general and the composition of his force at Waterloo.

Some weeks ago I started with the 44th Regiment of Foot "East Essex" and this weekend I finally finished the basing. Here are some pictures of the finished unit:

All the men are based separately on coins because I wanted to be able to use them for small skirmish games as well as for large battles. Afterwards I prepared the 40mm x 40mm bases to carry the coins. The scenic elements of the base are arranged to hide the gaps between the tray and the coins a bit.

Currently I'm working on the next unit: Royal Foot Artillery (Roger's Battery).
I hope to be able to finish them this week or next week.

Great tutorial on the flags. Thanks. I will try this myself as I have figures painted, just needed to do the flags which I have been wavering on...

I am also going to base my figures the same way you did in groups of 4 on round bases with a 2 x 2 base. I was able to pick up a bunch of GWs LOTR bases very cheaply, have cut them in half and now need to glue a strip of plastic on the open base edge, paint them and use them. I have names/numbers on my individual figure basess for skirmish games. So again, similar ideas!!

Actually I tried to cut the holes myself but it didn't work very well. I bought a cheap punching whole whicht went dull rather fast. Later I discovered that Warbases (http://www.warbases.co.uk/) some similar trays and precut top bases. Because the English coins standardized bases didn't fit to the 1ct.-coins I used, Martin and Diane made some customized top bases for me for a really reasonable price.

Excellent work on those bases and a great idea for swapping units by changing out colours.

I'm just putting the finishing touches to my own version of part of Pictons division - Pack's Brigade. I'll have a nosey at your blog for further inspiration !

Really impressive. I've started a similar basing tecnique with some French troops but using 20mm x 20mm square bases that all fit magnetically on to a larger 40mm x 40mm base. I think your style is very elegant though.
