Commando Miniatures
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:46:34 PM »
Commando Miniatures is a new manufacturer of 28mm miniatures. Our initial aim is to concentrate on the period between Korea and the Falklands, roughly 1950 to 1980 – a period which presently is not well catered for by figure and vehicle manufacturers.

Our first range of figures is aimed at the conflicts of the 1960s when British troops fought grim wars against implacable opponents- what have sometimes been called “the savage wars of peace.” On the island of Borneo there was the confrontation with President Sukharno’s Indonesian forces. The Indonesians had promised to crush the fledgling state of Malaysia and waged a war in all but name against a 17,000 strong British and Commonwealth force.

At the same time in South Arabia another force, almost entirely British, fought a rear guard action against a variety of Arab guerrilla factions. This conflict was fought in mountain, desert and even the back streets of Aden itself. Just to complicate matters, British mercenaries, often ex-special forces, were also fighting in civil wars in neighbouring Yemen and Oman.

Unfortunately this fascinating period has been largely ignored by wargamers and figure manufacturers – until now that is. Following a succesful launch at the Salute Show, Commando Miniatures first figures are now available on line, covering British infantry on patrol. Conversion packs for customisation are also available and being rapidly added to.

Next up will be the Indonesians and when we saw the greens it was immediately apparent that these figures were suitable for other SE Asian nationalities that used mainly US equipment and weapons.

Finally we are proud to announce that our first vehicle, a Series I/II SWB Land Rover is now also available. Surprisingly this ubiquitous Post-war vehicle has not previously been available in 28mm (1/56) scale.

In the longer term as well as figures and vehicles , our aim is to provide buildings, terrain and rules, in fact everything a wargamer would need to get started in this fascinating period.

Still can't say that the figures grab me but the Landy looks nice, I think I'll buy a couple of those. Is it a solid one piece casting? Any chance of an open top version? Useful for all kinds of things.

I like the plastic minis, I think those are your best. Good luck with your venture, are you going to make rules?

Actually the Indonesians look pretty good, a little chunky but I like the look of the greens, so I might pick up some of those too.

A nice start, and I could do with a Landrover or 3.

Interesting.

Reasonable enough figures although not in a period/nationality I am likely to buy.  I, as I prepare for retirement and moving,  am reducing my historical armies to Americana, American Indians, and Spanish (by nationality) and 1492 to 19th Century by era.  Seems to have lots of potential (given your posting) for skirmish gaming.  Fantasy armies going for Dwarves/gnomes/halflings/etc.,  and I may drop Science Fiction altogether...

I wish you success in the future.

Gracias,

Glenn

While I can't say I have reason to buy any just yet, I am happy to see someone concentrating on the time period you've listed.  I'll definitely come lookin' when some of my other projects finish up.  I love the riflemen with SLR's...

Yep, 1949 they entered service iirc... they were certainly present in Korea in 1950.

I'm not that interested in the Brits but sure could use those Indonesians, please announce on here when they are ready.
GG
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Not my usual sort of thing, but those look quite handy for Dr Who / 7TV style settings.
Especially the landrover - should look good with U.N.I.T. markings.
Will the British patrol figures also be available with berets?

I was still working on land rovers 20 years ago in the REME and you still see some of them around now a days, that don't look that much different

In that case I guess they would not look out of place in the army of a fictional modern day African country, especially one that was a former Bristish collony. What do you think?
