1815 British Napoleonics for Black Powder
« on: June 16, 2012, 08:02:17 AM »
I've been tidying the boxes after my last game so thought i'd take a couple of piccies while i'm at it

Front Row - Rifles and Highland Light Infantry

2nd Row - Gordons supported by RA and flanked by Line infantry

3rd Row - the Scottish Brigade

4th Row - the Union Brigade (Greys and 1st (Royal Dragoons) with the 7th Hussars [i'm working on a the 3rd KGL Hussars at the moment to finish the option for the Lights]

The vast majority of the infantry (and 7th Hussars) painted by Ady McWalter, i've painted the characters and an infantry battalion & i bought in the Union Brigade from ebay

This is my typical force for an evenings gaming on a 6x4 table for BP. We combine armies (2 - 4 friends a-side with similar sized forces) for our large all-day games

Hope you like

James

Nice sized army. Could you make a few more closeups?... :)

Would be interested in your experiences regarding small BP-games on a 4x6 table.
Have only a small table at home for gaming and wanted to play battallion games none the less...

Thanx,
DV

Hi DV

I'll put up a couple of close ups in a minute. We play most of our BP games on 6 x 4 tables with 3 or 4 Brigades. 8 x 6 would be better i agree but it works for us for a couple of hours gaming in an evening

I would recommend halving movement and shooting distances if playing BP on a small table (and you'll probably want to use reduced size units to reduce their frontages proportionately), but otherwise it plays fine.

If you go to the BP forums you can find copies of a 66% scale movement and range version of the QRS.  I use this scale in 28mm when playing AWI and Napoleonics on smaller tables and it does work on a 6 by 4.  I also us it on bigger tables as well sometimes.

The other thing to avoid is giving commanders too high a command rating.  ;)

On a 6x4 we simply use two-thirds for scale i.e. one infantry move is 8" rather than 12"...

We also play pointed armies for evening games. You pay extra for Commanders above CV7 so its a decsion whether to have better commanders or more troops

To give you an idea

My British list is 500pts and goes like this:

CiC CV8
1st Brigade Commander CV7
3 x Line
RA
2nd Brigade Commander CV7
3 x Line incl Highlanders
3rd Brigade Commander CV8
Rifles (Small Unit)
Highland Light Infantry
4th Brigade Commander CV7
Union Brigade
