French cavalry/hussar FIW?

Gents can you help?
Playing Muskets and Tomahawks and want to use French .
Have read it was if the hussar variety but need clarification plus units serving and lastly colours of uniform?
Hope they were there as want use Perry plastic Hussars for my unit..despite the fact they date from 1792 I think they'd work a treat
Anyway I'm sure the learned fellows that you are will steer me in the right direction
