"Small Wars" Post WWII Movies
« on: June 17, 2012, 01:58:21 PM »
Have been looking over the threads of Post war and Modern Adventures.
It got me thinking of war films set in Africa, Latin American, etc.
So got to looking for ones I have watched.
I figured I would post some of my favorites.

The Wild Geese
Lost Command
Go Tell The Spartans
Dark of the Sun
Under Fire.
What are some of your favorites?
Semper Fi, Mac

Blood Diamond, Johnny Mad Dog, Dogs of War, Bright Shining Lie, Boys in Company C, Full Metal Jacket, the Odd Angry Shot, Pork Chop Hill, Bridges at Toko-Ri, The Hunters.

Not counting the ones above.  :)

Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers. IMO close to being the best 'war movie' ever made. Certainly one of the most accurate.

The Virgin Soldiers (Malaya)

The Planters Wife ( Jack Hawkins in Malaya. Note: everything is better when you add Jack Hawkins)

The High Bright Sun (Dirk Bogarde does Cyprus)

Mi mejor enemigo ( the almost war between Argentina and Chile in 1978)

Tumbledown (Colin Firth does the Falklands)

Iluminado por el fuego  (Argentine account of the Falklands)

Second vote for the Odd Angry Shot. Graham Kennedy's shining moment.

Not sure if you can quite describe it as a war movie but I remember enjoying Harry's Game, which was set in NI.
