The Hunt for Doctor X - Part II added 29/6
« on: June 19, 2012, 04:59:43 PM »
At MacLAM Oldskoolrebel ran a .45 adventure for Gamer Mac and myself, a thrilling two part scenario. Here's the first part The Hunt for Doctor X...

Scenario – Retrieve the informant

Whilst it is known that the nefarious Dr X is close to perfecting his secret weapon, it is not known where he is conducting his research. However one of his research assistants has recently been captured by local militia in a small sandy town.

Eager to obtain Dr X's research for themselves the Germans have negotiated an exchange for the prisoner in return for a shipment of rifles and Sturmbannführer Blondie has been tasked to oversee this mission.

Unknown to the Germans, the British have heard about the exchange and sent Sergeant Blackburn and his plucky commandos to ambush the Germans, in order to get the intelligence for themselves to stop Dr X and the Germans.

The Germans arrive at the edge of town and several of the unit dismount from the wagon to ensure no nasty surprises lie in wait.

Moving up through the town between the buildings where unbeknownst to the Germans the patient British lie in wait, a snake is woken up by the noise of the truck angry at being disturbed rears up in front of the Soldat following the wagon on foot.

The British planning on letting the exchange place before ambushing the Germans as they leave town, wait, silently watching from inside buildings lining the street as the truck passes though.

Unnoticed by the passengers in the truck, the Soldat following them discovers just how deadly the bite of a cobra can be, as the cobra strikes as his upper thigh and injects it's venom into an artery, bring a swift death.

The German wagon slows down as it approaches the militia compound.

Meanwhile Hauptscharführer Mansfield approaches a building on one side of the street...

...whilst a Soldat investigates an open window on the other side of the street. Looking in he sees nothing as he doesn't let his eyes adjust to the dark interior for long enough.

At the gates of the compound Sturmbannführer Blondie lets the militia know that their rifles have arrived and asks to see the prisoner...

...as the sound of an SMG shatters the silence, as well as the face of the nosy Soldat who had been unknowingly staring into the barrel of Sgt. Blackburn's weapon.

Their cover blown, leaving Sgt Blackthorn in the building Pvt, Flaherty takes to the roof with his rifle and prepares to shoot at the figures around the wagon to add to the confusion.

Meanwhile on the other side of the street Smith and Jones emerge from their hiding places and using their SMGs fire a hail of bullets at Hauptscharführer Mansfield, but thanks to a combination of cover and agility avoids taking damage. Seeing the agility of Mansfield. Pvt Harris Harrison uses his pistol and shoots the German in the leg in an attempt to stop him moving around so fast, but empties his pistol as he does so.

Out of ammo Harrison draws his combat knife and closes into hand to hand with Mansfield.

Sturmbannführer Blondie hearing the gunfire, heads to investigate, whilst a rifleman takes position on top of the crates on the wagon and sighting an unknown rifleman on the roof takes aim and fires true, dropping Flaherty before he'd finished taking aim.

The crack of a rifle from the compound draws the attention of Smith and Jones who fire at Blondie and the rifleman. The rifleman is taken out of fight, but Blondie is made of sterner stuff and shrugs off a glancing shot to her head from Jones and two shots to her ample chest from Blackburn who fires from his concealed position across the street catching the Sturmbannführer in a crossfire.

Drawn by the fire from the concealed position, Blondie advances placing several poorly aimed shots into the window frame, but redeems herself by somehow shooting Blackburn in the legs despite the cover of a wall.

The militia having unloaded all the crates of rifles, put the prisoner into the back of the wagon and celebrate by firing their new rifles into the air.

Seeing that Harrison skill with a knife and Mansfield ability with his fist are very evenly matched Jones wades into the melee and provides a distraction allowing Harrison to strike a vicious blow to Mansfield's chest.

The swirling melee continues with Harris Harrison breaking his combat knife on Mansfield's SMG, disarming himself. The battle swings further in Mansfield's favour as he delivers a knockout blow to Jones.

Meanwhile on the other side if the battlefield in the battle of Blondie vs Blackburn there has been a winner and taking another wound to her head Blondie is knocked out. After shouting to the militia if they know what is good for them, they'll all go inside until the smoke clears. The militia guards all head into the compound and Blackburn seeing an opportunity to take further prisoners ties Blondie up.

The prisoner in the back of the wagon finding herself now unguarded attempts to untie her bonds and make an escape, but is slowed as she is unable to free herself from her bonds - Smith seeing her trying to escape peppers the ground in front of her with bullets in an attempt to intimidate her into stopping.

Only knocked out Blondie comes round as Sgt Blackburn is attempting to sling her over his shoulder as she holds him off by introducing her steel toecap to his testicles. Eyes streaming Blackburn manages to fight through the pain and gets Blondie up onto his shoulder. Still fighting dirty Blondie sinks her teeth into Blackburn's ear tearing off a chunk causing Blackburn to drop her and fall on top of her as captor and bound prisoner struggle in the dust.

Although she paused for a moment when the gunfire fell at her feet, the prisoner was determined to escape. Seeing Harrison and Blackburn caught up in their own battles with the Germans, Smith scrambles down from the balcony to try and catch the objective.

The prisoner however has finally untangled herself from her bonds and sprints for freedom, knowing that the bullets falling in front of her are warning shots and that she's only in danger if Smith misses the ground he is shooting at.

The battle ends with the objective escaping both the Germans and British, leaving neither side any the wiser as to the location of Dr X's secret lair. However the Blackthorn and the Commandos did capture Sturmbannführer Blondie and Hauptscharführer Mansfield, who later escaped nursing grudges against their British foes and vowing vengeance.

To Be Continued.....

.....Later this week when I've caught up on sleep and had time to type up the second scenario.

So with the failure of either side to gain an edge in the hunt for Dr X and his mysterious Weapons of Doom, Death and Destruction it took several months for Dr X's secret base to be located and through the whim of coincidence both the Brits and Germans arrive in the wood surrounding his base about 5 minutes and half a mile from each other – Even stranger given Dr X's lair in the Black Forest, the Brits showed up by road and the Germans parachuted in under the cover of darkness.

For those of you wondering how Dr X managed to keep his secret base secret for so long – Being a genius, he avoided volcanoes and opted instead for a château in the Black Forest guarded by German deserters – So the Brits thought they'd originally discovered a place where German generals played wargames and the Germans just didn't realise he was hiding in the open.

The Mission:

British – Kill Dr X and destroy his journal in order the world can remain safe from Dr X's secret weapon.

German – Capture Dr X or his journal so that the Germans can gain the use of Dr X's secret weapon for themselves.

Here's one of the reconnaissance photos taken of Dr X's château taken in daylight, although the mission actually took place at night, limiting the effective range of rifles.

The final proof Dr X was in residence as he is captured taking a stroll along the fortifications.

Led by Sturmbannführer Blondie the German force gathers in the cover of a hill after dropping into the woods by parachute.

Whilst the Brits come in by road with Blackthorn leading the way and checking directions at a handy signpost.

Unfortunately for Blackthorn, Dr X had posted a sentry near the signpost to his lair. Blackthorn acting quickly acts to try and silence the sentry before the alarm can be raised.

Whilst Privates Smith, Jones and Flaherty approach through the woods and spot a sentry guarding the road up to the château

Unfortunately for the Privates, this sentry was paying attention and they'd got a little to close and raising his weapon, gunfire pierces the silence of the night as well as the chest of Private Smith putting him out of the fight.

Alerted by sound of gunfire from the other side of the hill Sturmbannführer Blondie, gives the orders for some of her men to investigate whilst she advances towards the château under the cover of the distraction.

Cresting the hill Hauptscharführer Mansfield spots the commandos and empties the magazine of his SMG, adding to the sounds shattering the night, but not to the list of British casualties. Emerging from his concealed spot behind a group of trees Harris Harrison, uses his pistol to shoot the Soldat accompanying Mansfield choosing to shoot at the man who is not reloading his weapon.

Fuelled by anger at the loss of his mate, Jones grimly advances towards the German sentry returning fire and kills the sentry.

Meanwhile, Blondie and one of her cohort continue their cautious advance towards the château Unfortunately for the cohort he activates a booby trap and is burned to death by one of Dr X's fiendish traps.

Back over in the chaos of battle, Blackthorn is still engaged with the sentry who is putting up a good fight of it. Seeing Mansfield attempting to reload his weapon, Harrison draws his knife and prepares to settle the score against his familiar foe, whilst the Flaherty and the German Soldat exchange rifle shots in the darkness, with the final shot eventually going to Flaherty.

Jones continues his grim advance towards the sentry post, continuing to fire and drops another of Dr X's guards in an attempt to stop the sentries from regaining the sentry post...

...Only to be dropped in turn by return fire by a surviving sentry.

Alerted by the noise, Dr X scans the darkness from the crenellations of the château wall.

Having made a bit of a meal of it, Blackthorn finally finishes off the sentry that had been keeping him busy...

...and blood pumping runs over to Harrison to help him deal with Mansfield.

Taking advantage of the distraction being caused by the British, Sturmbannführer Blondie has got close enough to the Château to spot Dr X and opens fire at him, however the protection afforded by parapet sees him kept safe as he is not prepared to come out into the open to return aimed fire at Blondie and instead hugs the stones whilst firing wildly at her.

Flaherty having advanced past the fallen Smith and Jones gets within range of the last sentry and after shooting him, moves up to loot the body.

Deciding that Blackthorn has the wounded Mansfield well in hand, Harrison leaves the fight to advance and see how the privates are getting on, only to find Smith and Jones bodies strewn about.

Badly wounded in the arms and unable to fight further Mansfield attempts to flee Blackthorn, only for Blackthorn to knock him out with a blow to the back of his head. Discounting the fallen foe Blackthorn rushes away to try and get the mission back on schedule.

Flaherty dashing towards the entrance of the château, stumbles into a sentry and in his haste misses his shot – The sentry however does not.

And neither does Harrison, although unlike the sentry he used a whole clip emptying his weapon and not a single shot.

Mansfield may have been down and out, but he's made of stern stuff and coming round he begins to limp towards the château and the unsuspecting British.

Blondie finally wounds Dr X and deciding that discretion is the better part of valour, he ducks down behind the wall making himself impossible to hit.

Taking advantage of this Blondie, sprints towards the entrance of the château and attacks Harrison with her whip.

And Mansfield continues his advance towards the château, stepping over corpses and not taking time to reload his SMG.

As from up ahead he can hear the sounds of Blondie engaged in a threeway with Harrison and Blackthorn and whilst she might be cracking her whip, she is not having the best time of it. For although she briefly pushes Harrison back, he immediately rejoins the fight only to break his knife upon the steel toe capped jackboot of Blondie as she fends him off again with a kick.

Dr X seeing his attackers almost at the entrance to the château gives the order to unleash his secret weapon...

...and having released them the guard makes doubly sure that the door between him and Dr X's zombies is barred shut.

Engrossed in the combat, Blondie doesn't realise the threat that is approaching her from behind...

...but Harrison does and leaving Blackthorn to deal with Blondie, Harrison decides it's time to consider an exit strategy and heads towards Dr X's car.

Sturmbannführer Blondie finally becomes aware of the menace approaching her from behind, but luckily for her, she realises this just before the zombies are able to grab her...

…and she dodges Blackthorn's attack and pushes him into the midst of the zombies to distract them from her tasty form.

It was here that we ran out of time and we ruled it was yet another mission where neither side won – Dr X still has control of his weapon and now he knows his location is compromised is unlikely to hang around.

Blondie and Mansfield managed to escape thanks to the 'distraction' provided by Blackthorn and Germany's efforts to gain control of Dr X's weapon were redoubled.

Of the British, only Harrison survived to carry back word of Dr X's weapon having seen Blackthorn  killed by these strange creatures, only to rise again until Harrison ran the zombies over in his escape – No one was inclined to believe his story, until he showed them the animated hand he found attached to the bumper when he finally ran out of fuel in his flight from the château

Apologies for the delay in part two of this thrilling adventure - Given the ending though I am not calling it a conclusion though as Oldskoolrebel suggested he might be writing some more to this story. So stay tuned and who knows what Dr X might be involved with next?
