Skeleton/Undead army,
« on: June 22, 2012, 02:31:28 PM »
Guys,

I am looking to creat a classic undead army with lots of skeletons.
I dont like the GW ones. The Mantic ones look good but havent seem them in the "flesh" (pun intended :) )
Foundry has them as well but I am looking for a classical rpg look....
Any idead where I can buy good skeletons with variation?

I love those from Otherworld Miniatures, saw them here on the forum for the first time,  their sinister look is great imo, but I am not sure if you could make up whole units with them:

If by classic you mean old-school, why not try the old Grenadier range from Mirliton?

Lots of unusual stuff in there as well as standard troop types.  :)

I`d be tempted to go for Mantic and add in characters and special units. Not seen the WF ones but they seem cheap so one box might be worth a punt

Doing the same thing myself at the moment. I'd thought about the wargames factory ones, but the pictures I've seen show bad anatomy, such as the spine inside the ribcage. I got a box of the mantic figures, but (again ;) ) I won't be geting any more as I find the figures don't have enough variety in posing for me, if that makes sense. It especially shows in the legs where they use 5 different designs for the normal skellies and the armoured revenants.

Mostly I'm trying to find the old, old citadel skellies or any of the current-ish GW ones that are dirt cheap  ;D

I vote for Mantic their undead is easily their best range IMO really nice miniatures and very much is scale unlike some other ranges whose skeletons have massive heads and hands.

For a sense of scale the unit leader in the middle of this picture is an old Citadel pre-slotta C series Skeleton the rest are Mantic plastic skeletons

I have the classic skeletons from Mega minis, and they are quite good in "the flesh" (in "the flash"? Not much flash on them, though). Cheap if you buy a set of 24 - 33 USD, + 6 USD world shipping!

Ebob do a set of 16 posable skellies for 18 pounds. They remind me of the old GW skeleton army box plastics

The current GW Vampire Counts skellingtons are my favourites. They come with enough bits so that you can give them generic worn medieval gear rather than the VC specific iconography. I use a heap of them in my roleplay games :)

Those Otherworl skellies are very nice.  Very intimidating.

In case you haven't noticed the Mantic Kickstarter:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/kings-of-war

Ends on June 24, 3:17 EST.

$175 will give you a 1000 point undead army, worth about $250, plus about $400 worth of free stuff once they are completed in the next year.  Tallied up here, look at the $175 pledge:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/451718.page#4323939

Also, free shipping to Europe, USA, and Canada.

If you want to do Mantic's undead, I strongly suggest signing up before the fundraiser is over!

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. EBOB, MANTIC and some from MIRLITON it is!
The ones from otherworld are wicked but 11.- for three seems a bit steep?

If you think that you might be interested in building some units of my skeletons, I should be able to work out a good discount, especially if you don't want them blister packed.

I have the Mirliton ones with the slot bases. They're very nice, and fit in size with any more recent range.

look in the 80s  ;)

or alternative in the red catalouge from citadel. there you will find 100 different metal skelettons:
http://www.solegends.com/citcat912/c20305skeletons.htm
http://www.solegends.com/citcat912/c20304skeletons.htm
http://www.solegends.com/citcat912/c20303skeletons.htm
http://www.solegends.com/citcat912/c20302skelcmd.htm

in the catalouge you find 9 skeletton-horses and 24 different riders.
thats are 9x24=216 combinations. and all in metal. great!  :D
show me only one company that offers this range, at the moment.

i love these old skelettons. i collect them.  :-*

to buy that models you must search by ebay.co.uk and
you need patience and money...
