Entrails in 28mm, help wanted!
« on: October 21, 2012, 11:08:50 PM »

I would like to hear any tips on making entrails. I am making some unit fillers and want some nice looking guts!
Saving the last bullet... just in case.

See my wonderful BLOG of stuff!

I don't know something other, than modelling putty and an anatomy-book. You might find the later at the NCBI Online Library<-Klick

you could try using silicon gel ? I just discovered this water (see post on Waterfalls) - I could imagine you making loops of innards and then painting a suitable blood red...

i have done a few for my zombie game. First tip, base the model before you add the grizzle to it. or else it will get lost in the flocking.
I then rolled modeling clay really thin for entrails, just drizzled over an area, and attached to the gut. paint it red and pink, add lots of gloss varnish. then take left over clay, with a nice smooth surface, and paint it in variations of purples, and browns, splatter some red on it, and agian paint it gloss.
hope this helps

Not to put a spike in your creativity, but there are entrails on the GW plastic zombie sprue... Should be pretty cheap from the various bitz services if you wanted something ready-made.

I have used the GW zombie guts but also rolled out some lumpy strands of Green stuff or similar modeling clay and then attached them to the desired area. With a bit of positioning they look great. Then when painting paint a deep red and finish by covering with some Tamia Clear Red.

I prefer the home made and rolled guts as you can get much more variety and adaptability with them.

Thanks for all the great tips and help guys.

I stumbled on to a simple and ridiculously cheap solution in the end. I have used bog roll (lavatory paper, or toilet paper for those not used to the slang).

I split between the ply, tore off little strips and twisted them between my fingers. The picture is a bit off but I thing they work well, came to me as I was pulling the head off a cotton bud and twisting it, I thought hey that might work for those guts I wanted, it kind of did, but then I thought why not try it with bog roll and hey presto!

Thanks again for the tips I will be using some as I begin to paint them up.

This is a good shout, but I am a cheapskate if I can make it I will!

Cheers!

This is what I do.

Also, go easy on the bright red, paint it in a dark, almost black red, give it a was of red ink and a gloss coat.
