1:48th scale Königstiger
« on: July 02, 2012, 11:22:25 AM »
I posted a few pictures of my Königstiger on my blog:

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2012/07/02/big-cats-on-the-prowl/

One is from Wartanks, two Tamiya and one Hobby Master. There are also a few shots that should give you an idea how they compare to one another.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Lovely stuff. Leaning towards 1/48 myself and you've pretty much sold me on it.

Great stuff!! I have mostly 1/48th for my heavy tanks, they just look more impressive. I have a 1/48th Maus kit from Gas.O.Line on my workbench, that is a BIG piece of resin! Need to develop better airbrushing skills, tho, I still suck at it.

I own some American tanks in that scale, mostley Tamiya and one Hobby Boss. I actually managed to paint them quite well without any airbrushing. Is the Tank Crew the one that comes with the kit? I planned on using Reaper minis with mine but "Reich of the Dead" stopped before they could release enough minis for me. HAs anyone testet the new Wargames Factory plastics yet?

I never heared of Hobby Master before, but their homepages looks interesting.
Far less active than I used to...

Thanks guys!

@Onebigriver: I just think it is the best scale... Looks fine with my 28mm minis IMHO!

@SBMiniaturesguy: Proper airbrushing takes some time... there are a lot of peopel that are far better than me! The most important thing is that you rather apply a few thin coats than one thick coat and that you apply the base coat from further away.
The dust was just done  by applying a light an colour. I airbrush it on around the mudflaps and on the tracks front and back. Then I airbrush it on along the sides. I do this horizontally... lower towards the front of the vehicle, higher tomthe rear. Then Imgive it a light dusting on all sides for further away. I do not do big paintchips and rust. Most crews took better care of their vehicles than that IMHO.

@Glitzer: Sorry no experience with the Warlord plastics. Hobby Masters are well worth a look especially since they have some of the rarer tanks in 1:48th scale... like a JS 2.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Nicely done Burkhard!
3 of my King tigers are  Hobbymaster in different camo schemes. The fourth is a old bandai kit I believe I traded from someone on this very forum(Weird WWII aka Brian).

Really like them, I also have some, many of my vehicles are 1/48 but I like to have 1/56 with 28mm although 1/48 looks great with 28mm figures mostly due to height those extra 3-4 mm of the base this is why I use 1.5mm washers when I can find them!

This Is why I wanted to use Reaper Minis heroic 28mm is really 35mm and that works just fine with 1:48

Well... Victory Force might be a good choice then. They are a little larger and suit 1:48 well. Plus they are the nicest ou there IMHO!
