A question regarding Panzergrenadiers
« on: July 25, 2012, 02:50:12 AM »
I'm just starting my 28mm WW2 collection, and would like to collect a small Panzergrenadier force.  Would the grenadier boxed set from Great Escape Games work for this?  I'm not sure if there is a big difference between Grenadier and Panzergrenadier uniforms.

Link for the boxed set:  http://www.greatescapegames.co.uk/miniatures/miniatures-rules-of-engagement/german-grenadiers/german-grenadier-platoon.html

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Panzergrenadier is just another term for the former Grenadiers :) Give them a bright green weapon colour (effect colours on the shoulderboards), not white as the normal infantry. The term Panzergrenaider was used since June or July 1942.

Absolutely fine, the designation is just for motorised infantry. And then again, there wasn't always the motorisation needed or desired in 1944 when you're retreating towards the Rhine! The TO&E for the period we're talking about was slightly different at platoon level which is why we box the troops with smocks as SS Panzergrenadiers even though they have no overt SS insignia.   So, you can use either as normal Heer panzergrenadiers!
