I was impressed by the game run by Clive Jebbett at the recent "Attack" the two day show run by the Devizes club. He used mainly Irregular 42mm figures with a few odds and ends from other sources and the rules were of his own devising.

The situation was that Rudolph Hess had landed in southern England and be arrested by the local Home Guard. A German parachute force (about platoon strength) has been dropped to "rescue" him.

From what I saw, it was a very enjoyable game for the participants with a number of unexpected things happening to add spice.

Here's some photos. I've got plenty more if people are interested in seeing them. They were all taken on an iPhone so not perfect but they do give some of the flavour of the game.

The table:

The area as seen by the German paratroops as they flew in:

All is peace at the local station:

A familiar figure about to board his train:

Plenty more photos available is requested but I don't want to just drop a couple of dozen in right away.

I have a similar scenario in my pipeline, adding a sub to pick up a stranded air crew. Please show us more!!!

My pleasure - I'll drop in half a dozen or so at a time

Fruit is being picked in the orchard:

Even the local artist is at "work" in the fields:

The Home Guard are waiting instructions about their prisoner:

A sentry guards the 'phone box:

An important pill-box is manned and ready:

But this peaceful scene is not destined to last, figures in field grey appear from the woods:

More later - I'm being summoned to go out for a meal, hopefully Chinese...!

Yes, there's no doubt about it. Opposite the Home guard HQ, on the other side of the fields, the enemy appears from the woods:

There also seems to be something approaching down the road to the right. Oh relax - false alarm:

Nothing false about the alarm in the centre though - here they come...!

And to make matters worse, more movement to the right and this time, it's serious. And what happened to the sentry by the phone box? This looks bad:

And at exactly the wrong moment, civilians appear, heading down the same road those paras have just appeared on;

Consternation at Home Guard HQ:

The enemy in the centre approaches:

Some rather fuzzy pics in this batch -put it down to the photographer being under fire. Or maybe because it's a phone camera.

Dont worry about the 'fuzzy' pictures, Doug.
Not bad at all.

Really enjoying this little series.
Thanks for taking the time out to post them.

Thanks Mason - a very small pay-back for you inspirational topics...

Meanwhile, on the right flank, the German paras take out a suspicous van that suddenly appeared in their midst:

Seeing this, the previously oblivious civilians begin to realise their peril:

The van's occupant is killed outright and the vehicle crashes. A pity because he isw actually the mikman on his way to deliver the Home Guard's daily pint:

As the realisation that their tea will be milkless today gradually dawns on the Home Guard, more consternation ensues:

Having disposed of the luckless milkman, the Germans on the right close in on the pill-box:

The Home Guard enjoy a restrained celebration after the successful detonation of a fougasse, concealed in a hedge, reduces their enemy's numbers appreciably. Regrettably, the incident was not captured on film:

However, the remaining paras press on to the edge of the field and make short work of the Home Guard defenders:

With the successful storming and capture of the pill-box, the Germans complete their mission, "rescue" Hess and retire, victorious:

An overview of the game in progress at "Attack" with Clive the architect of all the fun, in the foreground:

An excellent report of, what appeared to be a great game, with a great set-up with enough humour to make it stand out and remain in the memory of those that participated for a long time, I am sure.

Thanks again for taking the time to post it, Doug!
