Scratch built anti grav APC from cardboard and junk.
« on: July 28, 2012, 12:24:09 PM »

Howdy.  My wife and I have been working on putting together some simple scratch built vehicles for our current sci-fi campaign.  This is an attempt to make an anti grav vehicle similar to a M113 APC.  I'm pretty happy with it for what is is.  More pics soon when I get it painted.

I have more pics and info on my blog: http://ironworkersminiatures.blogspot.com/2012/07/scratch-built-anti-grav-vehicle.html

I think you have every reason to be happy with it - it's a lovely bit of work and I'm sure once it's painted it will pop even more!

Thanks for sharing.

Outstanding! Those razor handles are going to look perfect once they're painted.

The base paint job is done!  I still have to do some battle damage then a wash and the final details.  We have two more of these well under way as well.

Got all three of the ones we built painted up to the same stage.  I just put a wash on after I took this pic and it got a bit dark but I think I'm still going to be very happy with them when I am done.

Awesome little unit.  I thought I was cool because my wife painted minis and games occasionally.  But yours scratchbuilds!  :o  Impeccable taste in women Sir.
This is my boomstick!

You should get an award for the quantity of useful stuff you share with us. It's always inspiring to see your work, specially when it comes to scratchbuilding things with toys/common house items. Thanks!

More thumbs up than I have thumbs!

Always love seeing your work Ironworker, partlybecause it's just great to look at, and partly so I can justify my 'piles of crap' to my girlfriend, who dosn't share my enthusiasm for razor handles and strangely-shaped platic packaging.

"But this guy makes lovely things with stuff like that!" I point out.

"Yeah, but you leave yours lying about for months at a time and never do anything with it" she replies.

Which is course one of the flaws in my plan.

Break it down as much as you can and put it in storage tubs.  Out of sight out of mind.  I need to re-organize again.  I'm pretty lucky though in the fact that my wife brings home almost as much random crap as I do and neither of us can resist a useful looking toy.  I'm usually the one who eventually says "We have to get rid of some of this crap we aren't using".
I do this kind of thing because I usually can't afford enough $50 tank kits.  Although I say that having just purchased a $40 mech kit.  The little metal and plastic people cost enough as it is.  I like having nice gaming products and I support them when I can but I couldn't do the kinds of thing I do if I didn't make things from toys and trash.  I just don't make enough money.
Most women who date/marry gamers are a little nerdy.  If you can figure out how to get them involved it helps.

Not even offering to paint a Woodelf as Link from Zelda - probably her favourite gaming franchise - helped. She remains aloof. Buys me stuff, sometimes even offers random crap she's found (I have a bunker made from an interesting box of mushrooms awaiting completion as we speak), but remains firmly uninterested in such things, as regards her own involvement anyway.

Someday, I'll show you the storage tubs I have, then my loft and The_Beast's basement will come over to yours and you and your wife can adopt them...
