A new company, an off shoot of Gripping Beast is releasing some new space marines, civilians and pilots which look remarkably like the colonial marines from Aliens.

For more info and other pictures check this out. It appears they will be ready for Salute 08 and have been sculpted by Rob Baker.

It's a nice looking range, I was tempted by these to use in Starship Troopers games.

I know probably no one's with me on this. However I'm pretty damn tired of nearly all sci-fi being rehashes of camp, world war II, modern stuff, 40k, and most especially the Aliens films.

There's literally thousands of universes of stuff to be inspired by and people just keep selling the same stuff over and over again. I'm not saying that all these lines don't look good or aren't something people want. But damn.

Miniatures manufacturers: Give us something new or by gum I'll show you how it's done myself!

Jibbery style oinkery which don't make no damn sense.

There's copplestone's troopers. I think Denizen's Mid-Tech Marines. And a few other manufacturers that I can't think of off the top of my head. All on a serious Colonial Marines vibe. Plus Hasslefree has some rifles that are pretty much straight out of the movie.

yeah, i'm sure there are a few more, the denizen ones are tiny tho but they look very close,  the copplestone ones just don't "do" it for me.

The hasslefree rifles are good, i have those for my project already 8)

I agree in general with you tho, very much of the same thing out there :)

Was just looking over at megaminis ebay store. Apparently Fenryl has a pack of three as well. Pendraken has some 10mm ones with that are spot on, kinda a shame about the giant heads though. :)

1st Corps also makes some.

I had both the Copplestone ones and EM4 ones and they are both similar (as you would expect) the EM4 have the neck plate whilst the Coppletone ones have more of a fritz helmet.

I think more pictures of these are needed as it may be just the picture but it looks a little squat

Check out their website they have about 1/2 dozen thumbnail pictures. I think the squat stature is a characteristic of Rob Baker's sculpts.

I quite like these. They will hopefully fit in well with the vaious Copplestone sculpts. I'm hoping they will be ok with Hasslefree & Heresy. Should look good with the Gymn, but not sure about the humans yet.

Hopefully GB will have some at Triples next month & if so, I'll buy some & get some comparison pics posted ASAP. If they only have the greens on display, Ill take along a couple of Copplestone figures & ask them to let me take a couple of pics.

Rhoderic, I've heard of the 1st Corps versions, but never seen them. Have you any comparison pics?

This is my favourite style of SciFi - whether Aliens, B5, Firefly of similar backgrounds. I just seem to prefer either the "realistic" SciFi, or perversely the totally ridiculous "Flash Gordon" style Pulp Sci-Fi

Happily we are well catered for in both areas  :D

Here are a couple of shots of the new figures.

First up we have dropship technician 'Priest' next to a (half painted) Copplestone terminator robot

And next 'The company man' next to a GW stormtrooper

Sorry neither of them are actual marines but they are representative of the ranges size.

Oh and these aren't out just yet either, there has to be some perks for working at the Beast... (my sneeky peek marines arrive tomorrow, Woo Hoo!)

Stay lucky,
Soaps.
